So I finally got an iPod, and I put a few songs onto it. Then, because I'm old and fat, I started walking with it. One of the songs on it is "Only" from Nine Inch Nails, and I noticed that when that song comes on, I get a bit of spring in my step and next thing I know I'm walking faster. It makes it obvious to me now why people have iPods when they're at the gym. Some music really encourages you to "just do it." I'm assuming that music fit for working out has a bit of testosterone to it.

Anyway...help me out. What are some good songs that will help get me up and off my fat ass and into a good workout?

Eminem-Lose Yourself is a good one if you're into that.
Eye of the Tiger is a classic for that.

I don't know if anyone else does this, but I put the "I'll Remember" remix off this site on there, and that motivates me more than any other song I've ever had on my running/workout mix =P

Other Nine Inch Nails stuff is good too.

Honestly, a whole bunch of crappy pop music actually functions pretty well for this because of decent beats, but a lot of people are against that stuff.. but I'm sure you can find those all over the place.

You can go 2 routes - classic heavy metal or classic techno.

First route - the first 6 Black Sabbath albums, any Bon Scott AC/DC album (as well as "Back in Black"), any Zeppelin album, and the 3 Deep Purple classics - "Machine Head", "In Rock", and "Fireball" would work fine, IMO.

As for the classic techno route, I'm talking about any Chemical Brothers album, pretty much any Fatboy Slim, and any Prodigy album EXCEPT for their last album.

So that explains it. Trying to work out to Mazzy Star just doesn't cut it, does it?

I would say the Revolting Cocks' remake of that may work better.

I just got my MP3 player (SanDisk) for the gym...Love it...It does make me work harder...I listen to Linkin Park and NIN a lot...I've tried the R&B and C&W, but that doesn't do it for me...It has to be up beat...

And to think, these guys didn't have this kind of technology...
