I have never receieved a passport before, but I think it is time I get one. I am planning on going to Iran next summer and a passport is a must. Should I put Iran on my application? Should I use my cell phone as my main number? Also if I move from my current "permanent address" (which I will be doing in September to an actual permanent address), do I need a new passport? Any other things I should know before I go and register for one? Thanks.
i dont think address matters too much - ive moved since i got mine and it still works. you dont tell them countries you may be going to on the application so dont worry about that. at least, i dont think you do. just get the application at the post office (not all p.o.'s have them), get a passport style photo taken at wal-mart for 10 bucks and mail them in w/ the appropriate amount. you should get it in 4-6 weeks.
I don't think you can go to Iran, can you? Isn't it on the banned list like Cuba? Either way, you would probably be better off saying you are going to the UK with all the Homeland goon squads running around. DD
God, do NOT put Iran down unless you want your application sat upon for months or denied outright. I don't know of any requirement to state where your going anyway. But traveling to Iran w/a US passport is doable, but difficult. There are also "international" passports that some countries might accept. Your cellphone number is fine. Your current address is fine, as long as they mail it back to you before you move out. None of that info appears on your passport - it's just for their files. There's a blank space in the passport where you write your contact info, and you're supposed to write in pencil if you move.
You are allowed to travel to Iran. It's just somewhat of a headache. Iranian visas in the US can be retrieved through the Pakistani embassy in Washington or an easier way is to go to another country with an Iranian embassy and get a visa through them. You can also get a visa in the airport but they generally don't like giving those out to Americans. Still there are reports of Iranian customs officials flat out denying entry of Americans even with a valid visa.
Yea, when I applied for my passport last November, I didn't know where I was going - just some place in Europe, so I didn't worry about putting a specific name on the application. However, like others have said, don't be surprised if you get to Iran and you get turned away even with a valid passport and visa and wouldn't that suck?
you are supposed to tell them what country, but for iran i think you have to get an iranian passport as well from an embassy of theirs or something, i think i had to go to washington to get one. do not put iran as the destination though when you get an american passport though, that would be an instant red flag no matter who you are.
i have horrible grammar and proofreading skills, forgive me. and that experience of mine is from 10+ years ago, so i might be wrong in all facets, except for the destination part because i just got another passport a month ago.
