wha do you expect stro to do? 15ppg? 20ppg? the real question is, how many shots does stro need to take to get to that. he only takes about 6 attempts per game in sbout 19 mins. and he makes about 1/2 of them. 50% is a good percentage. if stro shoot about 14 per game, then he would make about 7 which is 14 points. the point is jHo is the demon that keeps stro from doing his real stuff
I don't think it's a question of raw #'s from Stro so much as he plays smart AND hard enough (as joepatmc outlines in his post about the shot-block that wasn't) to avoid the JVG "quick hook" for stupid and/or lackadaisical play. Howard is the demon in so far as he continues to play smart/hard - he wouldn't have tried to block the shot the way Joepatmc outlined - he would have tried to get back to the basket and get a hand in the guys face. Now, he probably wouldn't have had that much success doing that as he's physically limited at this point in his career and the result would have been the same. But that's the way it's going to have to be unless they bring in a coach who has a different philosophy (not implying they should). Yup! If this is true then he needs to go join the Harlem Globetrotters.
The guy has been the biggest disappointment on the Rockets this year, putting aside the nightmare health issues. I really thought he would at least be decent, and that Howard would come off the bench, but Swift hasn't managed to do it. He has the occasional good game, but drives you crazy with his mistakes. Swift may have been part of the boot hitting Carroll's butt as he makes his exit.
Whatever! Refute what I said before you resort to name calling. I don't hate anybody. Logic and facts are primarily what I'm interested in, not emotions and wishful thinking by themselves. I want any player the Rockets have on the roster to succeed while they are here; Stro included. My whole body of comments this season on him reflect that. You want to talk about haters? What about the JVG haters? How many threads have been started? What about the Juwan haters, especially the one who has hijacked several threads with 10-20 posts calling Juwan everything but a decent human being? At least I'm trying to engage in intelligent discussion. I sincerely cannot understand why so many people here cannot see Stro for exactly what he is. The support to sign him last summer was amazing enough, but after a full season the excuses people here make for him are pathetic to the point of condescension.
gotta play him to produce, agree,i wouldnt mind juwan being a key player of the bench, since we cant rid of him, no a joke/ half serious note, maybe adderall will help him focus ?
hm..I don't think that Globetrotters would take him, although the missed dunks are hilarious! good entertainment. I agree with the people that say he hasn't developed for 6 YEARS, even though that article states that he played behind two people in Memphis. However, I think what Swift needs is just a good one-on-one coach. He has like a one second-flash of brillance combine with 15 minutes of utter crap, but someone who can harness that second is what he really needs if he wants to improve (since that's what he says he wants).
By the time Stro reaches his potential, Karl Malone will win an NBA ring, Iraq will be prosperous, Isiah Thomas will win the "GM of the year award", juwan Howard will lead the league in rebounding and scoring, vernon mawell will win "Life time achievement" award, O.J. Simpson will find the real killer, Suns will be the best defensive team in the league, JVG will win a championship ring, ryan Bowen will be NBA's scoring champ for a season.
Stromile isn't playing 35 mpg because he doesn't deserve to play 35 mpg. It's no ones fault but his own. He's a poor finisher, an inconsistent jump shooter, he doesn't run the floor hard, his weakside defensive rotations are usually late, he commits dumb fouls, etc, etc, etc... That said, a lot of fans here had unrealistic expectations for him.
tonight's game is a perfect example of why stro hasn't gotten a real opportunity with the rockets: stro: 12 mins played 8 pts on 4 shots j-ho: 31 mins played 12 pts on 14 shots 8 pts in 12 mins is pretty damn good what do people want from stro? a point for every min played? i just wanna see him get j-ho's minutes on regular basis and then evaluate him and see what he can do
I remember the game before Portland, he was in there for 20 minutes, went 8-11, grabbed 6 rb's, but had 2 fouls. If you give him playing time, he will produce. He just needs to stop fouling so much.
swift is a joke. there is a reason he doesnt get consistent minutes- he's not a consistent player. you cant blame Van Gundy for not playing a guy who after nearly a full season with the team still looks like a lost sheep on the court alot of the time far as im concerend if we cant trade him , we should waive him. Derek Anderson him (get nothing in return, it would be roughly equal value) only small reason i have for keeping him is he is good on nba live 06, way more so than whats realistic. nice athlete sure , but the "birdman" sign he flashes after a dunk may aswell be the signal for whats going on his bird brain.
Anybody know why JVG jerked Swift so quickly in the 2nd half. He was in there for maybe 2 minutes and JVG pulled him for Chuckie. Swift never played again. He actually looked like he was into it in the first half and made some good plays on both ends of the court. Did anybody see what happened?
A full season w/o a full team. Plus, his minutes have steadily declined and he's not getting into the flow of things with his teammates; chemistry. I've seen a couple of games where Stro looks great but JVG pulls him out after a foul or turnover. If he would get consistent minutes, he will be a consistent 14/8 guy. We already know he looks good with Yao on the floor, so let's see how good he looks with Yao and T-Mac. Besides, he's not going anywhere this offseason. T-Mac lobbied too hard for him and for him to be traded this quickly would make this organization look bad. He'll get one more year to show his stuff with T-Mac, Yao, and Rafer.
