From: http://204.202.129.224/nba/ I didn't think this guy would go top-10. Oh well, that shows you what I know.
It's amazing that an "artist management" agent can find so much hidden talent that previousily serious basketball scouts and veteran sports assessors have bnot been able to find since watching these guys since junior high school. Not that White or other represented players don't have talent, it's just that all agents suddenly want you to know they are much better than they have demonstarted the last several years. And, maybe more importantly THEIR client IS the MISSING LINK that franchises have been searching for ..... and they ALL will go TOP FIVE. Uh,huh. That top TOP FIVE region sure gets crowded when a draftee signs an agent. ------------------
They don't compare the guy to Antoine Walker for nothing. ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
Doesn't sound like your buying what they're sellin', oeilpere. I'll admit, I didn't get a chance to see him play and am going by the assessment of Clutch and other "analysts" from around the web, but White sounds like one hell of a prospect who could really look good in a Rocks uni. I'm high on White as well as Jefferson and Wallace, for what it's worth. ------------------
Live, Why are you high on Wallace? Admittedly I've never watched him play, but he didn't exactly light it up in his freshman year and people say he has no jumpshot. I wouldn't mind having the guy, but why is he high on your list. BTW, the reason I'm kind of high on him is he obliterated Darius Miles in an all-star game once. I think he held him scoreless while he went for something like 30 pts. Yup, that's the only reason I have to like the guy. Maybe you can teach a guy to shoot the ball, but you can't teach him to be an athletic freak of nature. ------------------ "If a nuclear bomb dropped on earth, two things would survive: roaches and David Falk." -- Kevin McHale quote courtesy of Patricia Bender's website.
The guy scored almost 19 points a game and shot around 35% on 3's (was actually near 40 for much of the season and he took a ton of them). Shot around 48% from the floor (53% if you take out the 3's). How is that not lighting it up or not having a jumper as a frosh? ------------------ Open mouth, insert foot. Sorry for screwing up White and Wallace. [This message has been edited by Hobbs (edited May 30, 2001).]
Hobbs, DoD was talking about Wallace, not Rodney White. ------------------ [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited May 25, 2001).]
I thought for sure asking "Why are you high on Wallace?" was a giveaway. ------------------ "If a nuclear bomb dropped on earth, two things would survive: roaches and David Falk." -- Kevin McHale quote courtesy of Patricia Bender's website.
wallace only avg. 10 a game but i do think the rockets should take a chance on him if steve could teach him to shoot he could be a less selfish kobe ------------------
Good question, DoD, why I am so high on Wallace? I love his athleticism, his intensity, and potential (yeah, I know, there goes that word again ). He reminds me of Finley in Dallas, simialr size, intensity, and athleticism, neither had\have much of a J or offensive game coming into the league, both were\are more defensive and energy players. But given his intensity, work ethic (reports are that Wallace is a bit of a gym rat), and versatility, Wallace can be a better version of Finley in 2 to 3 years. ------------------
....Buck Johnson....Robert Horry....Gerald Wallace! It's a fit. ------------------ Time is a great teacher-- only problem is it kills all its pupils.
Just to clarify: My post above was aimed at the poor credibility of any "official" cannonization by a sport (or artist) management organization. They obviousily have a lot of secondary gain if the value of one of their clients has been elevated. Rodney White is good. He has talent. May even be a great talent. But that talent has been graded and assessed extensively over the last several years. He has been slotted into a specific region on the upcoming draft. He may or may not move up or down depending on a particular franchises's needs. But clearly a media announcement with noncontext quotable "scout" approvals of ... "best" and "top five" should mean little or nothing more for the reader than they would if applied to movies, recent books, or broadway shows. It only makes them credible if specific quotes are attributable and only then if the quoted "scout" is one with a seasoned respect throughout the sport. I am sure at some point the responsible media team for "CaddyShack" could have found some critic that would have offered a quote like: "Stupendous!", "Oscar Material!!!", "This Year's Best!!!", "Rodney Dangerfield IS Sir Lawerence Olivier!!!!". But the truth is, it was just a funny movie and very entertaining but not any of the above. I think that was point, but you know me I have to take a couple more paragraphs to say it all over again. Cheers. ------------------ [This message has been edited by oeilpere (edited May 31, 2001).]
Ah, Live, I meant no disrespect for Alabama because they have produced some notable players. However, my jest was directed at the fact that Houston hasn't had any long term luck with our Alabama draftees. ------------------
