from Daily Kos The following Democratic senators have come out for censuring the president: Daniel Akaka Max Baucus Byron Dorgan Dick Durbin Dianne Feinstein Daniel Inouye Jim Jeffords Ted Kennedy John Kerry Herb Kohl Mary Landrieu Carl Levin Joe Lieberman Blanche Lincoln Barbara Mikulski Patty Murray Jack Reed Harry Reid Jay Rockefeller Chuck Schumer Ron Wyden Unfortunately, the president being censured was Bill Clinton, not George W. Bush. Because, you know, these senators had their priorities straight.
Wonder if yesterday's news is going to have any effect on the gutless democrats in the senate now? Will we see some finally standing with Feingold on censure?
The problem is that the Democrats don't control the agenda. Further the Democrats are poised on capturing the majority in both houses. To me that would be far more important than engaging in grandstanding. While I agree that it seems cowardly not come out and make big moves against this Admin. I'm not going to fault the Dem senators for playing it cautious. The one thing that most of should've learned from the Clinton impeachment is that the public doesn't like to see political vindictiveness. So while yes a censure resolution will fire up much of the population it will also alienate many people while also getting Republicans, even moderate ones, to rally around the President. Right now the Republicans and the Admin are doing a good job of going into dissarray and IMO the best thing that the Democrats could do is work on developing their own policies and positions rather than engaging in censure motions.
