if i go to a wings place or a pizza place and do takeout, i never tip. if i go to Chili's for takeout, i tip $1 or so.
People who work in jobs expecting tips have the biggest sense of entitlement I have ever seen. Do you former waiters tip the ushers at a movie theater, the mailman, the tollbooth operator? They are all providing you with a service. How about the fast food worker, the police officer that gives you a ticket? Here is a crazy idea, find a job that pays a wage/salary that you are comfortable with without it being supplemented by tips, that way you don't need to b**** about how mean and inconsiderate are for not tipping enough. I don't understand what it is about waiting tables that turns everyone into such a whiny, vindictive little b****.
I usually tip 10% if they run through the stuff in the bag to show me they got everything. If I have to check the bag, No tip.
I noticed that a Quizno's had that and my wife tipped. I was like what?!?!? With exception to delivery or servants, if you don't perform a service beyond what you get paid to do, then expect nothing and like it.
I dunno that there is a proper answer. Everyone seems set in their own thinking and ways. I'm not here to convince anyone one way or another. I do, personally, tip if I get takeout and usually at least 15%. Like was said, there is some preparation involved but I tip because it helps me believe that I'm kind and generous. If I'm going to tip, then I'm going to tip a fair amount and not no measily dollar or less. I think if you ask the person fulfilling your takeout order...he/she probably expects a tip.
The only other place I tip regularly other than dine in restaraunts are bathroom attendants. Those people are cool.
Ok first to the question about tipping on a takeout order. I ussually do tip about a $1 Now I can tell you never worked a job where you work for tips. I delivered pizzas for a year and half just so I could pay my bills. You say people that work for tips should just find a job that pays better without having to rely on tips but it isn't as easy as just getting another job. There aren't always job openings and when you need a job to pay the rent you take what job you get. I would like to see you work a job like that and have to pay all your bills and rent when your only making $4/hr + tips.
since i dont have enough privileges to post a thread... heres a pic of rafer alston's fine ass wifey! <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v330/bmspimps/raferalstonswife.jpg" border="0" alt="Image hosting by Photobucket"></a>
You are required to be paid minimum wage (and that is a whole nother topic) and if your tips don't combine with your wage to overcome the difference, your employer is required to. The whole "making less than minimum wage" argument is bunk. I have never chosen to get a job where I expected people to give me extra money for doing my job, you are correct sir. All of my jobs have been of the getting paid whatever my wage is and nothing more variety. I didn't have one of those jobs that convention dictates customers should pay extra money for. Nor did I have a job where I was able to terrorize those who did not give me said extra money. I'm sure it is nice to get a big, fat tip for doing exactly what is in your job discription, but if you don't get one, then I see no reason that you should have a right to feel slighted or put out. Tips are EXTRA, they should never be considered mandatory (and this all comes from someone who regularly tips 20-25%). Here is a question for all of you whiney b****es, er former waiters: Do you tip at the counter at Starbucks, Subway, etc.?
What does Rafer Alston OR his wife (which granted she is not bad-looking) have to do with this thread? Is he or his wife a bad tipper and if they are, how do you know that JD317?
I was not aware of that. If true, that really lowers my opinion of waitstaff. There are MUCH worse customer service jobs that aren't traditionally tipped, so people need to quit acting like waiting is the only job where one has to deal with stupid customers.
