Pretty good Wrestlemania, but I wouldn't say best ever. I'd say Wrestlemania 17 in Houston was the best... TLC II, Rock vs. Austin, Taker vs. HHH... that one was a true classic. McMahon vs. HBK was a lot better than I thought it would be. HBK and HHH's crotch chops were such a tease!! For a minute there, I thought there would be a DX reunion at the end of HHH and Cena's match. Instead, they made a crappy ending where Triple H fought all his way through 2 STFU's and almost passing out to finally just tapping out. But, it was still awesome hearing Cena get booed at almost every single chance the crowd had. Angle vs. Mysterio vs. Orton stole the show. Angle had a crazy ass German suplex in this match where Orton was grappling Rey from behind and Angle comes up behind both of them and tosses them. Easily the best match of the night... I like all three superstars but I do find it ironic and unusual that Rey Mysterio is the World HEAVYWEIGHT Champion. R.I.P Eddie... cause had it not been for his death.. I believe he would've been headlining Wrestlemania 22
Mysterio is not even Main Event worthy. Can't believe they gave it to that fool. Of course, they topped that with last night's changing of the tag team belts. The freakin' spirit squad?! you've got to be kidding me.
I used to be a huge wrestling fan - until 3-4 years ago. Now i'm interested in MMA stuff such as UFC, K1, and Pride. It's so much better!
Now that the WWE has God on the roster, UFC, K1, Pride, etc, just don't compare. How many deities do they have on their roster?
Really? Then why'd he promptly go over both the champ AND the #2 heel on RAW, while making them both look like idiots in the process? HHH is going to get the belt back either before or at Backlash, then they'll do a slow build to HHH/RVD at One Night Stand 2 (the ECW PPV) where he'll probably make RVD look like an idiot in front of RVD's own fanbase. HHH will only drop the belt when he wants to and to whom he wants to. And then it's only so he can get it back. I'd be willing to bet money that he's going to book himself as the one to beat Ric Flair's acknowledged title reign record (16) barring some catastrophic injury. As for WM, it was better than I thought it would be. MITB stole the show (again), Edge and Foley worked their asses off, and the women (apart from the botched finish due to Trish's legit knee tweak) put on the best women's match the WWE has had in probably at least 2 or 3 years. I love Mickie James, and I hope they have somewhere for her character to go after her feud with Trish is blown off.
What's the fascination with professional wrestling? We all recognize that it's fake, right? Is it more like theater -- is that the draw? BTW, I'm not trying to pee on anyone's corn flakes. I look around this forum and see intelligent people counting themselves as fans of WW this, that, and the other thing. I dug wresting when I was 8 years old (Iron Sheik, baby!), but that was about it. I'm interested in why mature, intelligent folks enjoy it today.
Mainly escapism. Yes I realize that it's fake. I've known it that since I was about 10. However, wrestling is, to put it one way, pure. It is good vs. evil. Good (usually) wins. Evil loses. It's not always the ending that counts though. It's seeing how good beats evil. How good overcomes the odds and everything evil throws at it. That's it in a nutshell for me anyway. Oh yeah, and hot women too .
I don't really care about the good vs evil stuff anymore (if I did, I wouldn't have been happy when Cena lost to Edge...yet I was overjoyed ). I watch it mostly for stuff like Vince McMahon accusing God of interfering in the match at WM, and then booking God into a tag match with Shawn Michaels as his partner. Stuff like that just entertains me I guess. Oh, and the hot women factor keeps me watching too.
So is movies, TV shows, plays, video games, plastic boobs, etc. A lot of things are fake, does it make us love'em even less? NO
I guess this can turn into the new general WWE discussion folder, so I thought I'd throw this in. Reports have it that Randy Orton was suspended for 60 days due to "unprofessional behavior". I'm not sure if this is WWE working the internet since he is on this week's Smackdown or if it's legit and just kicked in after the SD tapings. Anyway, just some news worth mentioning to wrestling fans.
From what I've read over the years, he and Vince are at least on speaking terms. He still hates Shawn Michaels though.
Yeah, Vince and Bret are civil. Apparently after Bret's heart attack, Vince was the first one to call to see how Bret was doing and offered to help in any way he could.
Is the WWF (i refuse to change) product really inferior now? Or did a lot of us just grow out of it? Where did all the talent and charisma go? I tune in for like 10 mins every now and then but everyone's just so boring. I hate the white rapper guy (id rather if theyre gonna exploit the popularity of hip-hop culture, they get someone who is believable. not some roided up vanilla ice), and a lot of the other main guys now seem like former tag team members and lower card guys who got big run by default. Am I wrong? HHH is still there thank god. He needs to get the belt and keep it until someone obvious deserves it.
You're not the only one. I used to be a HUGE fan, for a long period of time, but in recent years I think the product has gotten pretty bad. I think a bunch of things went wrong- The idea of splitting into seperate brands, The Rock/Austin leaving around the same time, lack of competition, and just poor development of new guys. Why is it that every wrestler today now seems like he is the generic create a wrestler on a video game, with nothing added? They all have the same look- spiked hair, trunks, moves, and their name is something completely bland like Brandon Robinson or something. For me i'll tune in once in awhile and see a few minutes, but usually the entertainment value is near 0. Hell even TNA is more fun to watch these days. Also I think HHH is more part of the problem, with all the power he has backstage, and him headling wrestlemania after wrestlemania. They say wrestling goes in cycles, judging by the ratings its in one of those down cycles. I also refuse to change- WWF forever!
One thing that several stars (Austin, Jericho, Nash, Steiner, Goldberg) have complained about the last few years is that WWE no longer gives wrestlers free reign on the microphone and makes them basically recite pre-written dialogue. This REALLY REALLY REALLY holds back a lot of charismatic guys that could get over huge. Imagine if they had done that to The Rock or Stone Cold!
