Good stuff. I went to China a couple of years ago and didn't take near enough photos. I didn't take these, but these pics from China are really sweet: http://www.pbase.com/gilazouri/china
Great pics Sam, I live in Hanoi now and just came back biking around Sapa, Bac Ha and the Tram Ton Pass. We were lucky to get sunshine, and it seems like you did too. The Montagnards are so nice (although a little less overbearing in Bac Ha). Gorgeous countryside.
Awesome. The only major problem I had with Sa Pa was that it was slash & burn season so there was a lot of haze and smoke everywhere, you couldn't see Fan Si Pan most days. Say hello to Vu (one of the hmong hustler kids) in Sa Pa for me! I'll post some of my Laos pictures later tonight, I tried to upload them last night but the up failed for whatever reason.
Outstanding, Sam. I especially love the shots you take of the people, whether toiling in front of some gorgeous scenery, doing their thing in the streets, or kicking some butt in the ring. The shots in the countryside are beautiful. Great stuff!
Thanks for posting those. That looks great. You were lucky to have such an awesome experience. I can't wait to go. I've been waiting for years, and it finally looks like next year it is going to happen.
It's called a mongkol, a sacred headband that muay thai fighters always wear during the pre-fight wai kru, which is buddhist meditation/dance - in a very un-buddha like sport.
Yeah, we had great visibility the entire time. I'm traveling to the same places you have been in the next 8 months or so -- will definitely ask for advice in Laos, Cambodia and India. Don't want to hijack your thread, but I have some pics posted here on flickr , too.
Good shots, I have pictures of some of those exact same Hmong and Dao people from the Sa Pa main drag, lol. Wait till you get to Laos - you'll see some of the bluest skies anywhere. Luang Prabang (edit whoops, shrunk that one down too much! sorry) FYI for whoever asked this was with a sony dscw7 point & shoot camera - good pics for small size. Vientane
