I heard that Peja was going to be a free agent this summer. I am not sure what kind of salary he would command but at this stage of his career he is not a max player. I think with Tracy and Yao next year he could definitely benefit from a lot of open looks. At the rate that Yao is going right now, he is commanding serious respect from the defenses and when you add Tracy to the mix, you would think that Peja could have a career best in Houston. Hopefully the cap experts could work their magic to see how we could make this feasible. Anyway, another player who would be great to help out in the front court is a guy like Theo Ratliffe. He's older but definitely is not a soft player. In my mind that is an upgrade from Juwon. Howard has a nice shot, but he is too streaky. Adding some guys like Peja and Theo would help addres some of our biggest needs.
People keep saying Peja wants too much, but I don't see the market setting his value very high. It's up to Indiana to overpay him. Otherwise, I'm thinking a long-term MLE. Would anyone burn cap space for Peja?
there are a lot of shooters in the NBA, you might as well draft Novak or JJ than go for peja, not like we have a chance anyway
might be easier getting voshon lenard. i just worry about his durability. the jailblazers are loaded in the backcourt with the emergence of steve blake (who i wanted in the offseason instead of DA). they seem ready to move someone.
i think he would fit in well with toronto. PG Mike James SG Mo Pete SF Charlie V. PF Chris Bosh C Pryzbilla sorry the rockets got no cap space so this is a silly thread, therefore i had to talk about my other team.
Peja would be awsome for this team. We could have a possible 3 players averaging over 20 ppg. It could never happen though, he will want way too much. We allready have 2 max players and he would be near the max. Someone will give him that kind of money.
First of all, who brought up Joel Pryzbilla to the mix of the conversation? people were discussing Theo Ratliff and Peja on this team....and oh by the way, your member name clearly shows your bias to the Raptors Rookie mistake eh?
Peja needs the ball. He is much more than a catch-and-shot player who we demand. We can't share the ball with 3 super scorers.
Only if he wants to do something special with the best swing man and big man in the league. MLE for Peja.
as much as i luv to see a 3pt shooter come to the rockets i have to say there is basically zero chances for the rockets to get peja, for one the rockets probably wont have the cap space and money to sign him for what he is probably going to get from other teams.
What the heck are you talking about? I am not sure wish Peja you've been watching, but the reason he was so successful with the Kings was because he was a catch and shoot player. His quick release was very effective and due to Webber, Divac and Brad Miller being such great passers, he was always able to shoot almost wide open because they'd create havoc with that Princeton offense. I don't think Peja is a good fit for the Rockets because otherwise he'd have come of the bench because I sure don't want Tracy back at that shooting guard position. Peja would be a beautiful shooter for the Rockets, if we had space for him in the starting line up, and I doubt he wants to come off the bench.
No, the year he averaged around 24ppg IIRC. He was not just a catch and shoot player. But his game has gotten worst than it was so I guess he might be now.
I agree, he fits perfectly with the all offense, no defense mentality Toronto is looking for! Oh look for Denver to take a shot at Peja too.
I don't know that's weird. I know that he has never been effective off the dribble therefore I know he wasn't able to create for himself that year. Brad Miller and Vlade Divac both averaged 5+ apg for that year. Peja really started being crappy when Webber came back, because he was a scorer, and Webber needed the ball in his hands to be effective. The thing was that he was taking around 17 to 20 shots per game which diminished Peja's game. Plus there was friction between them.
