I'm looking to open up a CD at a local bank but was wondering does anyone know what's the best CD rate right now and which bank?

I've heard that some banks are offering 12 months in the 4-4.5% range?

Bank rate does not have every place. Moody just raised their rates, so they're not bad (i think 5%). alternatively, if you have a brokerage account, just buy a 1 year t-bill...

Why are you limiting yourself to "in town" banks? Go find an Internet bank. They pay great rates. Of course "great rates" and CD's may be an oxymoron, but...

Get a brokerage account with Fidelity which has offices in town. From them, you will get the best rate for a one year CD (that is insured btw). Last time I checked one year CDs we almost a full point ahead of the liked term treasury bill.

First it depends on how much money you are putting in. The less you put in the worse the rate. Second remember to see if you can get someone to give you a deal. I work at a bank and have noticed that rates can be negotiable some times. If they want your money bad enough they might raise the rate say from 3.0% to 3.5%. I think our CD rates are around 3% currently for those under 75k.

FYI, beginning of the month I got 4.9% one year CD at Fidelity.

[Edit: Just checked Fidelity.com. Now they have a 5.0% one year CD available.]

Compass Bank... Tell them you were reffered by the "PBO" at the Trinity Mills branch in Carrollton. ;)

My wife will get the credit for the deal... no commission, just a nod...

Last week it was about 3.75% to 4%. ;)
