I was watching "The Ring" on ABC HDTV with my cousin and wife. we laugh when at the scene where the girl is watching the tape in the production room, the tape stops and she says: "SH*T!" and ABC didn't cut it. I even had it on Close Captioning and the text said "SHOOT!" :D Good thing they ahve that "viewer discretion advised" disclaimer before...

Did anyone catch this? I am expecting for the media to jump all over this, so I will bump if they do. Have there been other movies where they let this happen? Is this common now?

This remids me of that South Park Episode. The episode was about saying sh-t on TV, and they ended up saying sh-t about 130 times themselves haha.

You can say it on television but not on the radio.

u can cuss all you want, as long as you inform the FCC, or it's after a certain time, 9pm i think.

Thats why southpark cussed 128 times or something during a 30 minute show.

A while back, MTV had some "be a good person special" with convicts and stuff and they were letting F bombs Mf bombs fly left and right and this was about 5 o'clock in the afternoon. That probably fell under the informing the FCC ahead of time rule.

I wasn't aware the FCC had authority over cable. I thought the cable stations self-censored so that the FCC would have no reason to censor them.

i think cable channels self-censor for the sake of not driving away advertisers. if they feel comfortable with that, i think they can say whatever they want. like comedy central does with their uncut stuff that was mentioned.

a few months ago, tnt and tbs started letting "bulls***" be said, though you can't just say "s***."

as for ABC, maybe it was a mistake or maybe they were allowed to. i mean abc or nbc has shown saving private ryan uncut, so obviously you can get away with it.

Agent86... HDTV started in the late 90's. Can you watch anything at all on HDTV, cable or regular TV? ;)

francis, I agree. It was a mistake. They might have to pay the FCC.

A few years ago, on CBS, Mark Harmon said "S*** happens" on an episode of Chicago Hope.

Wow. I hate that word (starting with tw), but it doesn't seem to be seen as that bad. Even the bbs allows it.

Reminds me of watching "The Shining" in college with a bunch of drunk guys who would call out to each other over and over:

    "Tw@t?"
    "I c*nt hear you!"
    "I have an ear inf*cktion."

    as well as

    "She's pretty."
    "Pretty ugly!"
    "That one never gets old."
