this stunt is obviously a tongue in cheek dig at the pro-life movement. he's having a laugh at their expense and he doesn't even claim to be pro-life. LOL

I thought so too. My first cynical thought was that "see, it's Britney, supposed to be an example of what happens if people don't have abortions... and he's probably saying that no one wants to see that". Not that I want to be right here, but it sounds a lot more in line with what most modern artists would think.

Edwards has nothing but good things to say about Britney. Edwards says he admires Spears and called the sculpture an idealized figure.

the irony seems to be lost on many here. This same artist sculpted a Ted Williams cryogenic death mask head last year.

also read the Edwards' press release. LOL.

"Capla Kesting denies the statue was developed from a rumored bootleg Britney Spears birth video. The artist admits to using references that include the wax figure of a pole-dancing Britney at Las Vegas’ Madame Tussauds and ‘Britney wigs’ characterizing various hairstyles of the pop-princess from a Los Angeles hairstylist. And according to gallery co-director, David Kesting, the artist studied a bearskin rug from Canada “to convey the commemoration of the traditional bearskin rug baby picture.”

She may be a shallow, lip-glossed tart, but I think she serves as an excellent example of the personification of fertility. I wouldn't trust a man who has no use for a fertility goddess. :D

not to mention that Spears gave birth via cesarian section... she never gave natural birth...

    Good point.

She's probably laying like that so the baby will just fall out onto the bear-skin rug.

What are you, joking? As a tribute to being pro-life, this turd is probably the most exploitative piece of garbage I've ever seen! As if Britney Spears is some sort of role model as a mother... yeah right! They just picked the biggest sex symbol they could think of and made a statue of her naked on a freaking BEARSKIN RUG arching her back. Yeah, this has a lot to do with the beauty of life!

If it's an ironic statement, that's different, but that's now how it was presented on that website.

what it is is a brilliant piece of guerilla art, an ironic juxtaposition of the sacrosanct pro-life, pro-family movement with the lowbrow, white trash celebrity culture of Britney Spears in a lewd pose on a bearskin rug.
