And I apologize in advance for being too sensitive. :D Chancellor's accent is pure Mississippian - which makes the East Texas sing/song drawl sound like the Queen's English. Even those of us that have no problem understanding Van wince at the guy's mangling of the language. I'd love to see Van interviewing Yao for 15 minutes - Yao would seriously wonder what country he's in.

I don't know why Van would take the job at this point though unless Les is wanting to make a Comet's coaching change. Strange rumor indeed.

It'd be a nice change of pace from all the Yankees Les has been hiring.

I personally would love to see this move. Van is an excellent coach, a very good mind. His experience and understanding would serve the team well. He is defensive-minded, but can provide a ton of insight into offensive sets. He has years and years of coaching experience, and has been successful everywhere, under all kinds of circumstances, against very good competition, also winning olympic gold twice.

here is the usa basketball bio :

    http://www.usabasketball.com/bioswomen/van_chancellor_bio.html

Those of you assessing him on the basis of adverts, sound bites, and his comical media personae are operating on an infantile or juvenile understanding. Bringing on Van would be a major upgrade to the quality of our coaching staff. I would be very happy with Van designing offensive sets in conjunction with JVG and having Van next to JVG on the bench to note necessary game time adjustments, time outs, changes in strategy, that he understands from years of experience. This would be of tremendous assistance, and is the right position for him. It would give us an experienced game management and strategy hand like SA has with PJ, like Avery has with Del, like PJ has with Tex. Thibodeaux would also no doubt benefit from working with Van, and the team would be better able to divide responsibilities, specialize and concentrate focus.

I really hope to see this great improvement in professionalism and resources in our coaching staff. I would also like to see some new player development assistants, particularly a new big man coach, who can understand Yao, of course, but also especially for the power forward we will draft or aquire in trade. I'd also like to see a motivational-style guard coach, like Mario.

With all of these things, I would be ok with JVG as head coach, even have confidence in him as a very good leader for the team. You all know I have been a JVG hater, but hate is not a very productive loop. If JVG can work with the new GM team and work in a professsional coaching team without being handicapped by his own weaknesses, I belive he can be a good leader.

This is a truly out-of-the-blue rumor. This could really make or break Sina's reputation around here. The only way I see this as a possibility is if Van feels he has nothing left to prove in the world of women's basketball and is looking to break into the NBA. I think we're going to need one of our "insiders" to weigh in on the possibility.

Well, There is "rumor has it" in the article.

So, I don't know if it has anything to do with the reputation of Sina even if it turns out not true. ESPN reports trade rumors that don't carry out all the time.

Yeah but last time I checked ESPN has the credibility of a crack head.

I wouldn't mind having him on board, although he definitely doesn't fit in at all with the Van Gundy crew. I think he would be a great chemistry/personality guy to offset what the rest of the coaching staff does...but at the same time he would be stressing a lot of the same things (fundamentals, transition defense, etc).

Maybe Van feels his time is up with the Comets.

Considering Van says he is pretty busy with COmet's business right now...I somehow or the other doubt he is thinking of giving it up.

HE sounded pretty excited at the team he was hoping to field this year.

HE was interviewed during the pregame of one of the recent games.

Maybe this is a mistraslation/misunderstanding about the signifigence of Van being interviewed before a Rockets game.

How about a shooting coach? Contrary to popular belief, "shooting" is not grabbing the ball when it bounces off the metal ring that is attached to the backboard, or trying to take the ball away from the other team. "Shooting" is rather the act of throwing the ball in an arcing trajectory through the metal ring described above. I think the players could use some clarification on this.

Probably yes. So glad it didn't turn out to be a one star.

I think JVG has shouldered too much during game time and a capable assistant coach would definitely help our team. I noticed we seldom came out with a decent game plan after critical timeouts. JVG needs someone to help him to identitfy our problems and also offer some alternatives to counter our opponent's tactics. Coach Van Chancellor seems to be well experienced and I think he is someone who JVG will listen to. Anyway, I think the organization should find someone of similar calibre to assist JVG during game time.

In fact, I think Jeff Van Gundy is a perfect candidate for the ass.. He is such a detailed guy.

By the way, Chinese fans do not go to Sina. If you guys want to read some material in Chinese, go to HoopChina. It is sort of professional.

If that's true, then that's great news.. I've always liked coach Van and I've always wished that he coaches the rockets... I think that he should replace JVG and his crazy defensive system...
