I'm not too sure how reliable that is but, that is great for the Rockets.

To get 3 draft picks. They sure will have to make up for the one they will be losing next year to the Grizzley's

Come on Rudy get a top notch high school player whom you can sit at the end of the bench.

If you look around all these high schoolers are paying dividends after 3 or so years!!! Come on, Rudy, give it a shot!

If the Rockets were to get three first round picks. Why couldn't we just trade the lowest first round pick to Vancouver and settle the debt with them?

Is there some guideline in place that states the first round pick that is going to Vancouver have to be the Rockets own pick; or can we just give them any low pick we may acquire from some other team?

Vince, actually we'll probably get Dallas' #1 from Orlando, not Orlando's from Dallas.

Dream, I don't want to go over the rules of the pick again, but suffice it say we cannot pay Vancouver with another team's pick this year.

If we make the playoffs, we surrender our pick. If we don't (and we won't), we can keep it or, I think, give them whatever pick we choose this year or next. In this draft, I suppose we keep the picks, possibly to deal for a star-caliber(?) player.

Juan, what happens next year if we make the playoffs? Do we give whatever pick we end up with to the Grizzlies? Someone a while back said that the pick had to be top 15, what if we don't have a top-15 pick?

Raven, that was me who said that. We'll keep our pick this year because it is lotto-protected (if the Rockets want, I think they can pay it anyway). We can't pay with another team's pick because it would have to be top-15, and Mil and Dal are not that high. Next year and in '03, it has to be top-15. I don't know what happens if we don't have a pick to give them. But, I'm still convinced it has to be top-15.

I think an agreement will be reached where the rockets send the Milw pick to vanc with a 2nd rd pick in the future. Just a hunch.

Joe, my hunch is that your hunch is wrong. The Milwaukee pick won't be top-18, which is what Van needs to be able to pay Det. If we gave them Mil's pick, Van would then have to renegotiate with Det to get them to take the pick. Det has Van behind the eight-ball though, and I don't know why they'd let them go.

According to a vancouver exec, versace I think his name was, said they had talked with det about giving them a pick a little over 18 with a little compensation down the road. This was in a CNNSI interview about a two weeks before the trading deadline.

The Rockets were never mentioned, but the vancouver exec sounded very confident they would have a pick just out of 18 without trading for one. At the time it looked like the rockets might end with 3 picks between 19-23 assuming Orlando sent the rockets a pick this year.

    Does this change your hunch?

When I was watching the interview, I didn't understand why Det would let Vanc up either. I hypothesize that Det plans on sending the pick to the rockets and that det sees no reason to force Vanc in making a bad deal with a possible east foe (who have most of the high top 18 picks) just to send Houston the pick.

Vanc was prepared to trade Rahim, so there was no way they would get the pick and this way Vanc owes them a favor.

Yeah, I read about that interview and it seems Vancouver thinks it has a little wiggle-room. You may be right that Van and Det will negotiate a way out of the trap. But Detroit would really be doing Van a favor. I don't know why they'd do that, but Van thinks there's potential there. I suppose Detroit might come to the table because Vancouver still has the option of doing a predraft trade with someone else for a top-18 to send on. It's certainly possible that Detroit will deal with them, but my hunch is still that they won't, hoping Van gets locked into the debt.

Juan, your assertion that the pick has to be top 15 next year makes no sense whatsoever. Am I misunderstanding you? Are you trying to say that next year the team looses a top 15 protection on their own pick?

If then, everything's fine... a first rounder (anywhere: 1-29) will handle the bill. Just hope that the team is out of the lottery and that they won't really be missing the pick too much.

    Now that would rock!!!

If the Rockets got the Detroit pick as well, man that would be awsome!!

With the Draft this good, man I am excited about the draft choices the Rockets will have. I was listening to 610 this morning and the talk was essentially drooling over the possibilities of the players available with so many players leaving early.

That Detroit pick is lotto. Ain't no way them boys is gonna give it up on a platter.

Maybe a 3-way trade between Houston, Memphis, and Detroit, our picks going to Memphis (along with Walt and Los' expiring contracts), Reef going to Detroit, Detroit's pick and re-signed Corliss Williamson coming here (Corliss as backup 3/4). You could tweak the deal here and there.

No, I don't say this will happen, but Memphis would take it over losing a top 5 pick in this draft. And Detroit won't just hand us that pick. Of course, you could work out something simpler with just the picks. But this is all academic anyway.

If we could use such a deal to get rid of Cato (Detroit needs a center and has beaucoup cap space)....hmmnnn....
