I'm wondering what would get you more excited; a local high-school star who grew up rooting for the Rockets, went away for college, and ended up returning home via the draft, or a local college star, attending UH/Texas/A&M, born somewhere else (let's say NY, because all our players seem to have a connection there anyway), continued to become an adopted son by playing ball for the Rockets?

What pulls at the heartstrings more, a native returning home after becoming a star in another state, or getting to watch an out-of-towner blossom and develop beneath your very eyes?

Being from Hawaii, I obviously don't have much experience with such a situation; I find I have the most connection with the college stars at the University of Hawaii, rather than the local high-school stars; but if any one with island ties is doing well, I'll be quick to notice. Though it is a bit hard when the best basketball player we've produced in recent history is Anthony Carter...(at least in football we've got Jason Elam, Ashley Lelie and Pisa Tinoisamoa).

    Curious to hear your thoughts...

[Thread Hijack] Howzit Braddah. What a coincidence. I lived in Hawaii through my formative years (High School and a little bit after). We might be the only two people on this board with a Hawaii connection. I miss the Islands. And the food- I would kill for an L&L plate lunch, or some Zippy's chili right about now.
