Great pickup. Moulds, although he is a little older now, has about 3 or 4 really solid years left in him. He still demands double teams on a regular basis because, even though he doesn't have great speed and quickness, he's a great route runner and a strong guy who will easily find a way to get open verses man. Of course we have that other guy named AJ, who's no slouch himself, and teams will have to pick their poison. If true 12 million over 4 yrs and no more than a 4th is awsome.
Just thinking about all the different plays Kubiak will be able to come up with the weapons we are starting to assemble, gets me pretty pumped.
Exactly. I think I'm more excited to see what Bush can do in the slot than at running back...I think Bush can be a true pioneer playing both slot receiver and halfback. With the guys you mentioned, plus Cook and DD both being good receivers out of the backfield, we should legitimately have 5 guys on the field every play that can make a play and will demand attention. We've just got to get the line set and that has the potential to be a high powered offense. We may need to throw a little defense in there too.
Or what about when we throw Mathis out there? Basically, if we play our offense right, it will be difficult for any team to be able to handle the firepower we have. I just hope we can shore up that offensive line with the draft.
Or you could line up with Bush in the backfield, Putzier at TE, and have Johnson Moulds and Mathis at wideout. This would force a LB to cover Bush, what a mismatch. If they put a safety on him, then you have Johnson with single coverage or an open TE. I love the possibilities.
Assuming we have a decent o-line by the time this offseason is done, I'd really be interested in seeing how our offense stacks up against some of the better offenses in the league (Indianapolis, Seattle, Cincinnati etc.).
The key to all of this is our OL. If they can hold up then there is no excuse for Carr to do well in this system. Finally we are going to give Carr a chance to show that he is as good as they said...or in retrospect ...a bust.
Just a note on his numbers in 2003. He was hurt all year long with a groin injury. I had him in fantasy that year, so I had to live with seeing him listed as "questionable" every week. Instead of taking off some time and letting it heal, he kept trying to play, and he was completely ineffective. He sat out 3 games, but wasnt fully ready to go. Therefore, that "down year" is due to his injury, rather than his ability. It hampered him all year.
http://www.billsinsider.com/ WGR55.com: Eric Moulds, for the time being, is still a Buffalo Bill. Reports that a contract extension between Moulds and the Texans has been reached are false, according to the agent for Moulds - Harry Henderson. WGR Radio was also in touch with the Bills. Scott Berchtold, the club's vice president of communications, said reports of the trade are false. Talks continue between the front runners for Moulds, Philadelphia and Houston, and a deal could be completed down the road.
I don't know that it is. Andre Johnson's shown what kind of a receiver he can be in this league with absolutely no threat lining up on the other side of the field. Defenses can't key in on one WR anymore. This also makes the signing of Walters a great one as well. Add to those three Putzier, Davis and Bush, not to mention an already somewhat improved OL, our offense has the potential to be explosive. We also save a first day pick that we would have no doubt used on a WR. We can now focus on OL and defense with those other three first day picks.
It was verbally agreed that Moulds will take a 4 year, 12 million deal. According to houstontexans forum.
According to 790, Moulds and the Texans have agreed (verbally) to a 4 year, $12 million deal with a signing bonus of $4-$5 million. The deal is contingent upon Moulds passing a physical. No word on terms of the trade or if that has been worked out with Buffalo.
KFFL says the same thing... Bills | Moulds still with the Bills Thu, 30 Mar 2006 17:32:34 -0800 WGR550.com reports agent Harry Henderson said reports of Buffalo Bills WR Eric Moulds reaching a contract agreement with the Houston Texans are false. WGR also talked with the Bills, and Scott Berchtold, the club's vice president of communications, said reports of a trade between the Bills and Texans are also false.
He really is. Most of these offseason signings are pretty nice. I'm kind of glad he's sticking around, even though I hate to say it. Now I'm just wondering is it was Capers's influence that made Casserly blow, or if it's Kubiak making him better....
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/3760740.html Texans close to finalizing deal for Moulds By MEGAN MANFULL Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle After days of negotiations, the Houston Texans are close to finalizing a trade that will land them Buffalo Bills wide receiver Eric Moulds. The Texans have agreed to pay Moulds $14 million over four years, in a deal that includes a $5 million signing bonus. The only part of the deal that has yet to be finalized is what the Texans will give the Bills as compensation. The Texans are offering a fifth-round draft pick. The Bills are asking for a fourth-round pick. Moulds will arrive in town on Monday to meet with Texans officials. He is slated to become the Texans' No. 2 receiver and start opposite Andre Johnson. "We are excited for this opportunity, and Eric is ecstatic about playing opposite of Andre Johnson," said Greg Johnson, Moulds' agent. "We'd be overstepping our bounds if we said it's just about dotting the i's and crossing the t's. It's not that close to being done, but we are very excited." Johnson and Texans general manager Charley Casserly said no more progress will be made toward a deal until Monday. Casserly will be in Los Angeles over the weekend to watch running back Reggie Bush workout at Southern Cal's pro day on Sunday. Moulds, a 10-year veteran, was the Texans' main priority during the past week. After being outbid by Tennessee for free agent receiver David Givens, the Texans turned their focus to Moulds, who had two years left on his contract with the Bills. Since Moulds was set to count about $10.8 million against Buffalo's salary cap next season, the Bills wanted to restructure his contract. When their attempts failed, they granted Moulds permission to seek a trade. Moulds, who is 6-2, 210 pounds, has spent his entire career in Buffalo. He was a first-round pick in the 1996 draft and has been a full-time starter since 1998. He has 675 catches for 9,096 yards and 48 touchdowns in 154 career games. Moulds, a native of Lucedale, Miss., is excited about moving closer to his home. "His mom has only attended about five games in Buffalo," Johnson said. "She says she can't wait to get in her RV and head down I-10 for the six-hour drive. She wants to tailgate with the fans. She says it will remind her of his college days (at Mississippi State). "Hopefully this will work out for everyone. I can't say it definitely will, but we're very excited." Moulds has been hampered by an offense that has struggled for most of the past five years. The passing game, which has ranked no better than 27th in the past three seasons, was part of the reason Moulds sought to leave Buffalo. While the Texans ranked 30th out of 32 teams in passing last year, Johnson said Moulds is optimistic that won't be the case for long. "He's excited about catching balls from David Carr, and he's especially excited because there won't just be one Pro Bowl receiver — there will be two," Johnson said. "He told me, 'How do I know there are two Pro Bowl receivers? Because Andre Johnson beat me out two years ago.' "He's excited about the possible addition of Reggie Bush or even playing alongside Domanick Davis. They are both great backs. He doesn't see this as just a two-and-whatever team. He feels it's a new year for this team, and that he can really come in and truly help them win some games."
