The Nets won their 10th straight game. In the last three games, the Nets were able to hold their opponents under 80 points:
    vs Pistions 79-74
    vs Suns 110-72
    vs Grizzlies 86-74

The Nets' defense is right at the top and ranks 4th (ties with 3 teams) in points allowed per 100 possessions (data as per 82games.com dated 3/26).
    1 - Spurs 99
    2 - Grizzlies 102
    2 - Pacers 102
    4 - Clippers 103
    4 - Nets 103
    4 - Pistons 103

With the arising of its defense prowess, the Nets will likely upset the Heat and reach the ECF. ECF Pistons vs Nets anybody?

Also, an interesting article about the Nets from Steve Kerr:

Opie is one of the more underrated coaches in the league. It just proves Larry Brown talks out of his butt.

The Nets are looking good - but Kerr is just a bandwagon-ing doofus.

I guess it just took a while for them to gel. Seems like after 30-35 games they were still neck & neck with the Sixers and the wheels were falling off. Then they pulled away some, had the long winning streak, puttered along for a bit and now have another long winning streak. This is the kind of success I expected at the beginning of the season, but the Nets had so many problems early I'm surprised by this late run. I firmly believe they can take the Heat in the 2nd round because (1) their defense is solid, (2) the Heat can't shoot the long ball well enough and (3) VC is playing with heart. If VC plays with heart in the playoffs, this team can make Detroit sweat. If VC wilts under pressure, forget it. He is the key variable in how far they go.

The Nets ace in the hole is Vince -- because you know he's only playing this regular season at about 72%. When the playoffs come and he cranks it up Horry style... watch out.

If Nets had a legit big man (Nenad is good but he doesnt put fear in anyone), they would be serious title contenders.

I think that Krstic is a very good fit on that Nets team. If they had a dominant low post player their personels would have to change a lot.

Doesn't EVERYONE crank it up during playoffs? It's not just T-Mac that plays harder in the playoffs than in the regular season... ;)

I didn't think the Big Three would be able to last with their inflated salaries killing the Net's cap. The risk of drafting Nenad Kristic has been paying off with his defensive hustle and now he's dropping 15 pts and 8 boards a game for the last 3 weeks.

I guess you have to give Kidd and Carter their due for not being as washed up as many have said.

It was rumored that the Spurs was prepared to draft Nenad Kristic with their 26th pick in 2002. But somehow the Nets found out and used their 24th pick to get N. Kristic. The Spurs ended up trading away their pick and now they keep their pre-draft choices as top secrets. With the good play of N. Kristic lately, it was a big steal for the Nets.

I have been watching Vince Carter and the Nets since the start of this season, their defense is up intensively in this 10 games winning streak. This 10 games winning streak is different from their earlier 10 games winning streak. This winning streak, the Nets win games with defense. When the Nets slowed down the Suns and controlled the tempo, it was just excellent defense. The Nets really gel together lately. I never expect the Nets can execute their defense better than their offense. The Nets certainly will make some noise in the playoffs.

Jason Kidd staying healthy is probably the biggest key to their success. I never thought Carter was washed up, but I had my concerns about Kidd's knee.

The problem of the Nets' bigs is on the offensive end. Jason Collins is a good defender. That's why when N. Kristic scores double digit, the Nets (I forget the record) win most of the time.

The other problem of the Nets is they have a thin bench. But the Nets match up with the Pistons nicely. Nets vs Pistons will be a hell of a series.

Actually if you look at VC's playoff performances in Toronto, they left something to be desired. He was a choker who would resort to throwing up long range shots. Charles Oakley called him out on it.

If the latest version of VC actually increases his intensity in the playoffs and becomes the unstoppable force on the offensive end, the Nets will do well. He did OK against the Heat last year even though they lost. If he does well again in this year's playoffs, I'll remove him from my "Players with the least amount of heart" list. For now, he's still #2 behind Peja.

Wonder if he's still telling the other team what inbounds plays they're going to run.

Okay, everywhere fans hate Steve Kerr or Charley Rosen or Peter Vecsey.

I never have any problem reading Steve Kerr or Charley Rosen or Peter Vecsey. I read Peter Vecsey as some jokes. I read Steve Kerr or Charley Rosen for their rare few good points. For over-exaggerations or false points of view, I will omit them.

Example: There is no writer except Charley Rosen that write play-by-play analysis of a team.
Does Charley Rosen make some false points? Always.
Is Charley Rosen always objective? No.
Does Charley Rosen make a few good points occasionally? Yes.

Exactly. I also do not get why so many fans get too caught up with these articles. Each of these articles only represents a single person's opinion, and that could varied to a very large degree among the thousands of columnists who write NBA. Right or wrong is almost always objective. I seriously have no idea why such and such columnists would get hated so much with a piece of information that only represents what he thinks.

Knickerblogger has the Nets at 8th def eff., they were 7th last year, but not at 103 per 100. Rather, they're at 105.
