It just occurred to me... If the Rockets make the playoffs this year, they forfeit their pick to Vancouver, who will likely send it to Detroit to fulfill an obligation. What are the chances that Detroit might send it back to the Rockets to fulfill their obligation to them? Isn't it next year that the Detroit pick is due? ------------------
According to realgm it's due in 2002. It seems safe to ass-u-me that they would just send the pick back (or at least trade it for multis in the 20s and send the Rockets one of those). Should be interesting. The Rockets could get 1-4 first rounders this year since Milwaulkee has to send an 11-29 pick this upcoming year, Detroit could pay regardless of whether or not Houston gets into the playoffs and Orlando has until 2002 to pay (and they probably will have 3 picks in the 20s with which to pay past debts). ------------------
The Blazers owe Detroit a first rounder from the Bonzi trade, and since they'll pick in the late 20's they'll probably ship it off to the Pistons, so long as there aren't any conditions attached. In turn, I don't see why Detroit wouldn't ship that off to us if they can...as opposed to the one they might get from Vancouver. Same thing with Orlando--they can get a pick from somebody else that has one later in the round, so our extra picks won't be all that hot...good thing it's a deep draft... ------------------ P.S. This is what part of the alphabet would look like if Q and R were eliminated.
Can a team trade an expiring contract on draft day? e.g. Could Miami trade a future first + Ced Ceballos for Walt + a current first? ------------------
The odds Detroit gives that pick back to Houston are aprroximately zero. Detroit had 8 years from the Stackhouse trade to give Philadelphia any first round pick. I believe that gives them a few more years than 2002. Additionally, the pick they might get from Vancouver has severe restrictions on it in Detroit's favor. Vancouver can give Detroit any first rounder this year provided it is the 18th pick or better (17th, 16th...) or they can wait and they have to give Detroit their pick (not one they traded for) next season unless it's top 5. If it is top 5 then they have to give Detroit their pick the next year unless it's #1 overall. And the Blazers do not owe Detroit anything anymore. They paid that pick off the year after that trade. Detroit conveyed that pick to Atlanta (remember when they had like 4 picks in the first round? Two were from Detroit). Hope that helps. ------------------
Can we validate the terms for the Toocan Sam trade? Since Detroit inherited the terms from Philly, they are the same. It's not as if any years could get 'stacked on' hardy har har. ------------------
