well listerine burns quite bad so i usually rinse it with cold tap water afterwards. but someone told me that the particles from the water would than stick to the teeth, thus reducing the effectiveness of the listerine. theres nothing about this on the directions, so what do you do?

I use Crest mouthwash and always wash my mouth out afterwards. If you don't, that taste will stay in your mouth for hours.

The Crest mouthwash is nasty, I cant stand it. Listerine is my favorite. I love feeling the burn when I use it.

My sister (from her dentist) told me the order is
    listerine
    floss
    brush

I guess you get a carpet bombing effect before routing out the germs...finished off with a general scrubbing of the area.

    floss, nothing but propaganda.

    no cavities , never floss.

    therefore, this applies to everyone.

I concur. I've never used mouthwash in my life, and I've probably flossed maybe 3-4 times in my life. I've never had a cavity.

I like the Crest until I spit it out. Then that taste just kind of lingers unless you wash it out.

Ugh that stuff tastes terrible. Just burn yourself with the green stuff and everything will be fine.

I have always wondered am I supposed to rinse with water after I used those mouthwash ... because most of the directions only said rinse it with the mouthwash twice a day and never tell you anything else..

In fact, I always use the mouthwash last.. and I don't rinse with water afterward, because I thought that would diminish the effect of the mouthwash...

oh yeah.. I use mouthwash.. floss... and brush my teeth, and I have more than 20 cavities.. NOTHING work for me..

I don't think it's a big deal in the long run because plaque froms from your saliva.

Listerine alone doesn't replace flossing or brushing. Some people have great teeth, but mine are pretty crappy even though I brush twice a day....

    I don't see how people can't floss.

If you ever started flossing your teeth wouldn't feel clean if you don't.
You are just used to all that junk stuck between your teeth that it doesn't bother you anymore -- but it's there.

Like lots of things your teeth health is determined partially by heredity and partially by your care -- but not flossing can cause gum disease later in life (think of all that crap hiding between your teeth all those years)

floss is for tartar build up and gingivitis too. you probably have a crap load of tartar under your gums. my gf just had to have a deep gum cleaning to scrap out all the crap under her gums.

Since the burning is nothing more than alcohol, you can save yourself the nasty taste of listerine and rinse your mouth out with tequila...plus, you get to drink the tequila afterwards...
