Yeah, I always thought Moulds was weak as the primary receiver on Buffalo, but I think he would be a solid #2.

John McLain is on this morning saying that Moulds wants $5 million/season for 3 years and really wants to go to Philly.

$5 million per year is too much for Moulds since he is 33. I would go with a 3 year $12 contract with a small signing bonus so you can cut him his last year of his contract.

McLain said he didn't think Moulds would get it...but that's what he is seeking. But apparently the Eagles are his first choice.

It's one thing for Terrell Owense, arguably the best receiver in the game (on the field), to choose where he wants to go. This is freakin Eric Moulds...he's underachieved/been injured/whatever else you want to say as an excuse for the last two or three years.

$3 mil a season is the most I'd give him.

I agree. I think that Babin is a better run stopper than Peek (currently). I think Kalu will add to the depth.

Good pickup.

Yep. In the Buffalo news this morning, there was a little article about Moulds trying/wanting to go to Philly, and about how he has already talked to McNabb, etc. The article also said that teams would most likely be offering second day picks, which I thought was interesting. (Most people have been saying third or fourth rounders...)

A fourth rounder is a second day pick.

it looks like were becoming a "real" franchise

it is very comforting to know that the organization is taking steps to improve the team via free agency instead of waiting for the draft and hoping the picks pan out

this excited abouta 2-14 team wow,,,cant wait for the season to start

At this rate, we could be talking playoffs next season. With an O-line like this and Carr, Bush, DD, Andre Johnson + Moulds at the core, A 9 or 10 win season is definitely within reach.

man, having moulds as our #2 receiver would be awesome. but w/ carr, bush, andre expected to make more money, putzier, and others...i don't know how we're going to pay moulds the type of money he wants. i know if there's anyone in the league that will cough it up, it's bob mcnair...and this is definitely a better bargain that what givens was asking for...but still, our payroll is going to be HUGE! either way, johnson, moulds, walter, and mathis @ 1-4 receivers with putzier at TE and bush/davis at RB is as solid an offensive corps as they come in the NFL. get it done, charley!

Texans try to enable trade for receiver Moulds
Contract needed for swap with Bills; team to sign Kalu for defensive line

By JOHN MCCLAIN
Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. - The Texans are interested in trading for veteran Buffalo Bills receiver Eric Moulds to start opposite Andre Johnson.

Moulds, 32, has been given permission by the Bills to seek a trade because they don't want to pay him the $7.1 million he's due this year.

Before the Texans can work out the trade with Buffalo, they have to negotiate a new contract with Moulds, who caught 81 passes for 816 yards and four touchdowns this past season.

"We're exploring an opportunity for Eric to play for the Texans," said Greg Johnson, one of Moulds' representatives. "If all sides can see eye to eye, we'll make it happen.

"But everyone has to see eye to eye."

The Texans, Philadelphia, Denver and New England are among the teams interested in Moulds, a former first-round draft choice who is entering his 11th year. Over his past eight seasons, Moulds has averaged 78 catches and 1,065 yards.

Reports say that if the Bills can't trade Moulds, who has compiled four 1,000-yard seasons, they'll release him, which would make him an unrestricted free agent.

A league official familiar with the negotiations said Sunday night that the Bills are asking for a fourth-round pick.

The Texans don't want to part with their premium picks in the April 29-30 draft. They have four picks in the first three rounds or four of the first 66 selections. The team has been trying to take care of specific needs in free agency so they can draft the best players available.

"There's definite interest on both sides," Johnson said.

Moulds, 6-2 and 210 pounds, has been one of the NFL's better receivers since Buffalo selected him in the first round of the 1996 draft out of Mississippi State.

Moulds finished this past season with a flourish, making 27 catches for 305 yards in his last three games.

Meanwhile, the Texans are expected to sign another free agent today. Philadelphia defensive end N.D. Kalu agreed to a one-year, $750,000 contract during the weekend.

The former star at Rice is a 10-year veteran who spent the past five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Kalu, 6-3 and 265 pounds, played in 15 games last season, including eight starts. He had 30 tackles and two sacks.

Kalu follows defensive end Anthony Weaver, fullback Jameel Cook, quarterback Sage Rosenfels, tight end Jeb Putzier, center Mike Flanagan, middle linebacker Sam Cowart and receiver Kevin Walter as free-agent additions.

Just ask the Steelers. They went from 6-10 to 15-1 in one year.

With a 10 win season before that, and a successful nucleus in place - and then they solved their quarterback problems by getting rid of Maddox.

Exactly,

The Texans are having a great offseason. Not getting real big name guys, but are slowly upgrading at positions of need. This is what we should have done our first offseason. BTW if the Texans get Moulds, our offense is a very good one.

QB - Carr
RB - D. Davis
RB - R. Bush
WR- A. Johnson
WR- E. Moulds
WR- Walters/Mathis
TE - Putzeir
T - Chester Pitts
G - McKinney
C - Flannigan
G - Wiegert
T - Weary

I don't like playing the role of pessimist...and I hope I'm wrong....but I see this season as Sam sees it, too.

I know The Cat and a few others of you have said you think this team is better than it's record. I don't know how to even respond to that. We COULD have won games against SF...and we're supposed to be excited by that. I just don't see it. SF sucked...and we lost to them. We're 2-14 and we played so poorly on both sides of the ball all season long, I just don't see how you could think we're appreciably better than that. And I guess if we were twice as good, we'd still be only 4-12.

I see holes all over the place...I see a question mark at quarterback....I see rookies being asked to come in and make immediate impacts. I'm happy they've addressed some of these concerns. But I'm not OVERWHELMED by the signings so far, either. I still think they're gonna have to spend a high draft pick on a 2nd wide receiver...and I hate that they're gonna have to do that.

I see this rebuilding period as a 2 year rebuilding period. I can't imagine they will be as bad next year as they were last year...but that's not saying much.

Our margin of loss throughout the season was pretty low. In other words, we were in every game except about 3.
