I just got back from San Antonio and had some AMAZING mexican food there...Ritas on the River, Mi Tierra (twice), La Margarita and La Fogata. YUM! I'm Chinese but Mexican food is my second favorite. As for Houston places, El Tiempo, Teala's, the original Ninfa's, La Mexicana and Spanish Flower are all excellent!! I love Mexican food!
You ever walk down the hill to Fulton and have a slice at Patsy Grimaldi's? If not....check it out! And yes....next time I am up there we will do beerage!
La Finca on Mason road (Katy) is good, but I'm a sucker for marinated carrots at any Nifas or Berry Hill... DAMN, I know what I want for lunch now
ya know, i've actually, in my fourteen years in the city, never eaten there. i know exactly where it is and have been in the area too many times to count. the problem is that it is ultra touristy. every time i've been near the joint, and been hungry, there has been a ginormous line. i just don't have the patience or inclination to wait around for a slice. one day the stars will align and i'll happen by and it won't be crowded, then i'll give it a try. there is a place in park slope that opened a year or so ago called la villa. it has wood burning ovens and makes killer pies, i usually go there.
rubytuesday, La Fogata is one of my favorite restaurants ever. I have to eat there anytime I'm in San Antonio.
this is tough...it depends on what I want, specifically. for beef fajitas, i love Lupe Tortilla's. for chicken fajitas, i love Ninfa's for enchiladas, i love La Hacienda but I think overall I prefer Doneraki. I guess that would be my favorite. good memories there.
the wait was like an hour and a half but the margaritas were good! i only wish i were more hungry at the time. but i had eaten so much during the day that i couldn't finish my food.
i think pole criticized them because the were too limey. i understand that but i still like them. my favorite is the three chile cheesesteak there, have you had it? it's super spicey, but i love digging in and working up a sweat. in the case of that dish, i think the lime works really well with the extreme heat.
For me, the lime taste in it is great. These are easily some of the best beef fajitas (in a restaurant) I've had. Loading that sucker up in one of their flour tortillas with sour cream, guacamole, cheese and some of those beans they give you for the chips...damn.
Guero's Pappasito's (fajitas) Chuy's (enchiladas) Trudy's Matt's El Rancho Magnolia Cafe (migas) Juan In a Million (breakfast tacos)
Rosario's is equally as good. It is on the corner of Alamo and St. Marys- in Downtown San Antonio. Give it a try if you get a chance. Really good food, and amazing salsa.
Only 2 times I've had fajitas there, that was my experience. The meat flat out sucked, good flavor, but texture like a tenderized round steak. Just bad. RMT - I thought the original Teo's was on Irvington (w/ the huge Aztec murals on the walls) & the one on Airline is the new one. Either way, I can't tell a difference in the food at either one...easily my favorite TexMex place in town.
I took my Dad to Grimaldi's abour 3 months ago. He said "thats damn good pizza, well worth waiting in line 30 minutes. However, if it had been 45 minutes, I wouldn't be so satisfied"
Might be. I might have it backasswards. All I know is that I have been to all three, and I cannot tell any difference between the three. All of them are fantastic. Easily my favorite TexMex in town also, and I am so damn happy there is one 5 minutes from my house. Plus they deliver! Now if they only delivered margaritas......
