Are you a regimen user? I've been on it for a week and am seeing some results already. I have pretty minor acne though.
Stop using steriods. jk. It sounds like the acne problem you have goes beyond just the face, it could be a gland or hormone thing. If you've already tried a ton of stuff that you put on your face, and it hasn't worked, you've gotta get something that will attack it from inside. And if that's not working, then nothing to do but wait it out and hope it gets better. Acne sucks.
I've struggled with the Pizza hut face since I was about 17. I'm near 22 now and it has gotten a lot better, especially after I recently started using like a moisturizer, toner and astringent.
You could be right. However, I wouldn't mess with Accutane. It causes severe depression in some people, sometimes, leading to suicide. It also has to be cycled on and off. So it may work and your all clear, but then you have to stop taking it for a few weeks so you don't build a tolerance. That's enough time to get completely broken out again. Acne sucks. I hope the Regimen works out for me.
I took Accutane and it helped out with my acne, but I'm not so sure that I'd do it again if I had the choice. I mean, I did not suffer any depression or anything MAJOR...But It severely dried my skin and there were mornings I'd wake up and I literally could not stand up and get out of bed right away. It was the freakiest thing, for a few seconds my back would just be locked stiff. I had major dry skin (well, i guess that is kind of the point), so if you do take it, keep some moisturizer handy. Even today, I have minor back pain that I think is a result of the accutane. Nothing serious, but If I had a kid and a doctor recommended it...I'm not so sure...
These days I use this Buf Puf facial sponge with Liquid Neutrogena Facial Cleansing. Works good for me.
I used to have horrible acne (16-17) and went to a dermatologist for about a year trying every product out. Once there were indications that there was going to be bad scarring, they put me on acutane. While the side effects suck (chapped lips, dry patches that pop up everywhere on the body) you can get some aquaphor and that helps greatly. I used it for a year and it was easily the quickest and easiest results I saw. On the topic of side effects such as depression and liver damage, from talking to my dermatologist we got the impression that if you have a pre-existing condition or problems, it is probably going to make these worse. My advice is to try it and if it causes problems then stop. My acne flared back up recently (20-21) and I have been using purpose face wash in the morning and proactiv at night and I've seen decent results.
Don't listen to any of the above commons except go see a dermat..... And also, please do not put any cream or wash your face with strong cleaser, because once you face has acne, your skin tend to be very sensitive, so putting anything on your face will only make the problem worse sometime. Don't eat any greasy or hot food, and please, when you have bad acne, avoid any foods that is greasy, hot...foods such as french fries, chips, burger, chili, fried...anything, please avoid it, your skin will be sensitive to it. And PLEASE, don't use any craps like neutrogena or any counter stuff that sold at most walgreen or walmart, this is completly crap, and the BP will only make your face more sensitive, and red, use a good and gentle cleanser, Japanese product are preferred, but they're hell of expensive, of course, they're real good oriental beauty product, u know why asians that lived in Asia don't have much skin problem, one of the biggest factor is the environment, environment is a huge factor leading to acne, not that they have good clean air, but it just the way it is, the choice they choose to eat, and the product they use.........Very truth, because I got bad acne here in the U.S before, and when I went back, it's heal 80 % in a month, and when I got back, problem again........ Tell her to think positive, and control her eating, and be happy is very important, because there's nothing that can't be heal, and time is the most important thing to the healing process. Need more advice, just send me a IM................
I'm sure this Asian product may be very effective, but it may be hard to find here. So, that kind of rules that out. Food has never been tied to acne in scientific testing. I would try the regimen. It's hard to argue with the success stories: http://www.acne.org/success.php
"Proactiv" or that imitation product "Acne-Free" works great. You can get that imitation version of Proactiv at Walmart or Walgreens for about 15 bucks.
Acne sucks. I'm 31 and it's come and gone my whole life. I've tried every topical treatment on the prescription market. For awhile I was also given amoxicillan. It worked like a charm for a long time but you can't just keep on taking antibiotics. A little over a year ago I finally did accutane. I couldn't wait to get on it and I couldn't wait to get off of it. I wish I could say that accutane cured my problems but I still get flair ups, at my age no less. I made the stupid mistake of switching to Dove soap a month ago and my whole face broke out. I went back to antibacterial a couple of weeks ago and things have cleared up. Maybe it's a coincidence. Maybe not.
I think SK-II has one product made for acne, but it's hard to fine, and it's hella expensive. I think for one treatment is like over 100 bucks. I don't think they have it here in the U.S though.
I didnt bother reading the whole post but a few years ago I used this acne cream called Differin (sp?) and had great success...the only thing about this cream is that it requires patient b/c the first week that you use it it causes yo skin to get really dry and start to peel but if you continue to apply it then your acne should clear up very quickly...I never got acne again thanks to Differin!
i got on Acutane when i was in high school and it pretty much cleared everything up. i had chapped lips but i don't remember any dryness anywhere else, and my lips were just sort of dry, not horribly dry. i definitely would do it again. after acutane, i've used proactiv, but only the alcohol thing and the final cream and it worked great. at this point, i'm not even sure if those are even necessary as compared with just showering or washing my face each night. basically, on the 10% of days that i don't take a shower at night i usually don't use proactiv, and then i get a few bumps and maybe even a pimple, but as long as i shower and use proactiv at night, i'm clear. i could probably stop taking the product as is, but i still use it b/c i'm just used to it at this point and i figure why risk it.
I don't like stuff that dries up the skin because eventually your face overcompensates with the oil to keep that balance. I get acne from time to time but it's usually bad when: I'm stressed I touch my face too often I forget to change my pillowcase every 10 days or so My hair gets too long. I wash too much (eczema). I don't think foods is a big factor since I eat everything. I do feel a difference with greasy foods... I wash my face (with cleanser or soap containing glycerin instead of the abrasive stuff) only when I shower. I leave it alone the rest of the day. Since acne's caused by bacteria, I let most of my skin do its work without messing up its chemistry.
For those people that said food has no tie with acne, oh no no no.............. you definitely got it wrong, they can't prove it with scientificlly, but food do have some effect on it if you have bad acne. Greasy food is one big example to cause acne to go even worse. Think of this, if there's something that we eat can improve our health, and maybe our skin or acne, then there must be something that can be bad for our health too. Greasy and fried food is BIGGEST thing that will kill off our body's vitamine, well, not greasy, but fried food is.
QFT I only get zits after a week or so worth of bad dieting. A bag of potato chips, some whataburger, and a snickers bar and i'm bound to get a pimple.
drink 2 litres of liquid each day (at least 1.5l plain water, no sugary drinks). cut out sugar from your diet (e.g coffee, tea, frosty flakes). avoid sodas and candy. if you need a sugar fix, eat an apple instead. if you're indoors a lot make sure the humidity in the room is right. try this for one month religiously.
mine was relatively minor, but persistent. But yeah, I've used that for about.. oh probably a year now, maybe a little more. Results still good. I also do agree with the poster above about certain foods causing it for different people. It just depends on you.. I don't have this problem anymore, but sugar/chocolate/caffeine/ some mix of all that used to have some effect. I think I've grown out of that even if I stuff myself sometimes. But there's one type of tea (kava) that magically gets me if I drink it for 3 or 4 days in a row. So just gotta test and find out what it is..
