Some of the items was not worth putting thousands and thousands of dollars into. I think the most practical one was that sand bagger shovel.

The kid getting the boot at the end was kinda sad, but he's got a bright future. Smart kid, knows how to build stuff.

I have a couple inventions, one of which, I feel I could present myself to this show with. Both of my inventions are really far out there, but I feel they both would work (although one probably wouldn't be possible until about 100 years from now). The only thing is - I'd have no idea how to make them. They have to do with computer chips and whatnot.

I thought that was a good idea. I would buy one to bag all the leaves after I rake. I was surprised to see him not move on to the next level.

    you don't have inventions
    you have ideas
    :D

You have to break them down to the components
ask yourself. . .what are your trying to do?

    WTF!?!

Anyone remember the 13 year-old kid on the show that invented that auto fan? I just saw an EXACT COPY of it on a commercial. Someone stole that kid's idea. That's messed up.

I caught some of it last night. There was this homeless guy who had a game called "Bullet Ball". It was a round table about 4' in diameter with some small, curved walls attached to it about 6 inches high on each side while leaving an opening for each player on opposite sides. Then, there was a portable, square tray with about 16 colored balls. The objective of the game was to square off against your opponent and, using your hand/elbow, try to knock the ball past your opponent. So, he had one of the judges be a player and he played against the balding big guy with the glasses...probably the most critical judge on the show. They played maybe four rounds where the guy with the invention won all points. A few times...the ball went over the little wall off the table but, if it did hit the wall, it would curve around the contour of the little wall and, hopefully, past your opponent and off the table for a won round and a point.

As much as I wanted this guy to succeed and get back on his feet, I just thought the game was totally not a good idea and not fun at all. If I want to play something like that, then I would play foosball, ping pong, or air hockey(much funner). You also look funny playing this game he brought...like a chicken squawking. The judge playing him just had this expression on his face that was like one of understanding the game but not liking the game. The inventor presenting was enthusiastic and the lady judge always asks the inventor "how much have you put into this?" or "how much have you invested in this?" . This guy basically started sobbing as this dream was his whole life with no fallback plan except being homeless. He was so sure of himself and achieving his dream. But, the product didn't have enough merit to make it...according to the judges. I just thought it was a table with some balls. Something easily put together in one's own home in some fashion. But, the game just isn't fun and is not really even a good idea. He looked ready to ride his dream all the way to the end of his life...success or no success. You can't help feeling sorry for him.

It's definitely an interesting experience watching what all ideas these folks bring to the table, though. I know we've all thought of some idea for an invention at some point in our lives...no matter how impractical or stupid.

Personally, I do not like reality shows at all and stay away from them at all costs (i've never seen an episode of survivor and only seen parts of American Idol b/c my gf watches it). My gf was watching American Inventor last night and it was the typical reality show. I hate how they play that sappy music and everyone starts to cry and feel bad for everything...ugh.

I thought the dude with the creature that says "Everything is going to be ok" was hilarious. Did you see the way he was hugging that thing after he lost...that was hilarious and disturbing at the same time.

Now if only this could catch on and make all the jobless zombie youth of our nation want to be pop-star Edisons, we might have a fighting chance against China in 30 years....

    I recorded it
but I have not watched it yet

I think this show will open people's eyes up to
    various things
    1. being an inventory ain't easy
    2. It is not a DAY JOB until you hit at least 1 homerun
    3. like being an ACTOR, SINGER, ATHLETE . . you need a fall back plan

I seen part of ole boys testimony on the commercials

    i feel bad for him

My thinking the whole time was that it was really just a very simplistic version of air hockey. And here this guy is comparing it to basketball and soccer and thinking it's going to be an Olympic sport.

    I liked the Knotty(Naughty) Nightie :D

The fact that he thought it would be an Olympic sport just blew me away.

With the "exposure" that the Knotty Nightie got on American Inventor, that product will be in lingerie stores any day now. For some of these inventors that don't make it to the next round, just making it on the show is good enough to get the publicity that they need.

Also that kid with the invisible tear gas is probably already working for the federal government.
