I am just mentioning what I know. The attendance problems are not entirely due to Mr. Van Gundy, but he is a significant part of the problem.

    there you go again... "significant?!?"

Then, how do you explain the team drawing less than 10,000 fans some games during Yao Ming's rookie year... a year they were in contention for a playoff spot till the final weeks of the season.

    What's the significant problem there?

The attendance, if you care to look up, went up significantly throughout the stretch run of last year... when the TEAM was playing the best ball they had since 1997.

I know you're just trying to get across your agenda... but its getting really old.

I grew up in Houston, and I love the City, but let's be honest. People here don't support anything. Check out our local music scene. If you can find it.

The games are expensive. I usually only go a few times a year. And I went to the game Monday, even though I really feel like the season is over and we're out. And I figured we'd lose the game. I still enjoyed it.

But I love how now it's JVG's fault when guys can't hit wide open shots. What a bunch of crap. Is he making them too insecure to shoot, because they're so worried about his wrath? What a bunch of crap. The truth is that the team was gutted by injuries this year. If T-Mac hadn't been out, and if we hadn't lost a couple of our other guys to injuries, we would have 15-20 more wins, and nobody would be complaining about JVG.

    What a bunch of crap.

I love Rudy but he was not getting it done and then you factor in the health issues and what else was Les supposed to do?

I agree that the Dream situation plus the nasty way Rudy left was very bad pr hit but come on lets not blame JVG for poor attendance.

The combination of lottery seasons, the lockout and the dramatic rise in ticket prices over the late 90s up until when JVG was hired hurt.

When the Astros stop winning they will face the same problem.

I think Les has figured it out ticket prices have been the same since toyota center opened as have concession prices, If we get back to winning and playing the same brand of ball as we did the second half of last year we will sellout most games.

Actually, I've heard season ticket holders saying they don't have much interest in going to the games these days because Van Gundy ball isn't exciting or fun to watch. That's bad news.

Essentially, I agree with Kryten. Though I think if Van Gundy ball was taking us deep into the playoffs, people would get over the ugly style, it's not though, so now we have a terrible team with an unwatchable style of play. Not good.

No they haven''t. Our season tickets have gone up every single year, if I remember correctly. We're up to paying 36 thousand per year for them.

Yes, it's sad :( but you're next statement is right on.
The Rox in their Championship years were really not that fun to watch, UNLESS (before I get flammed) you are a Rox fan. In that case, it was the most exciting basketball I personally have ever watched and I've watched a lot. People say how boring the Pistons/Spurs Championship was last year, but damn if you're a Spurs or Pistons fan it was a pretty exciting series.

I guess if you're into the high scoring affairs, the the Suns, Sonics and Mavs are the teams to watch, but if you want to watch classic defensive style basketball than the Pistons are a fine team to watch. Not to mention they've got the fan base to support them (as do the Spurs).

I believe in The Field of Dreams theory - "If you WIN...They will Come".

You must be kidding. Watching Hakeem work over the rest of the leagues big men was a thing of beauty. You don't have to be a Rox fan any basketball fan could not help but appreciate that. He was just amazing.

Ok everything but the club level has stayed the same. Those have a waiting list and I know they raised them.

For all of yall who want JVG gone and say his style of basketball is hard to watch you really have a short memory because the second half of last season was just great to watch.

Many Basketball Fans now believe that T . McG is damaged goods and dont know what to expect from their team in the future. They see an inferior product on the floor and a scowling Coach. They dont like to see their team give up on the season and the signing of Frahm indicated that they were not going to get any help to replace Mc Grady, this season. Only fresh thinking and an exciting team will put fans in the seats of Toyota Center. Les must think big and bold this off season or he might see the value of his investment downgraded.

The Houston fan base for any sport - football, basketball, baseball--whatever, is mediocre. Don't be offended. I'm not talking about the people on this site. But let's face it, Houston fans suck as a whole.

    Na your wrong about Football.

Sure in the 90's it got bad but only because of the years and years of poor seasons and the stadium problems that started a couple years before the move.

It's only been 4 years but there hasn't been one game that The Texans havn't sold out.

There's a difference between being "sold out" and having a bunch of rabid fans who are actually there.

I went to one of the "sold out" Texans games last year. Reliant was nowhere near capacity.

They may sell the tickets-but the fans aren't there and they aren't making nosie.

That's fair but I think it's important to note that it was a bad season.

Since it was sold out most of those empty chairs were prob. season tickets. I doubt someone would buy a ticket to a single game and then not go.

What game was it though? Was it against another basement team?

All I know is that some fans chose not to renew both mini- and full- season ticket packages due (in part) to Mr. Van Gundy. I personally have been quite content not going to Toyota Center 10X/season, and watching the Rockets on television instead of giving Le$ money to support his choice of head coach.

there's nothing special about this. this is true everywhere. when i was in college at baylor in the early 90's we used to laugh about how easy it was to get mavericks tickets...they would literally give them away. the place was empty constantly....then the team started winning. all of a sudden, mavs fans are everywhere. i never once saw a mavs hat or tshirt or jersey or anything that whole time i was up in that media market.

there are a few exceptions to this rule...but hell, even the celtics...one of the most storied franchises in all of sports in what is presumed to be the premier sports city in the country...can't sell out! the bulls don't move tickets like they used to.

Haven, you suck. There may be times of apathy within the fans of houston but there is far more support than your lack of knowledge suggest.
