I wonder how many Rocket "fans" we lost when we picked Horry instead of Minor with the 12th pick that year, only to get them back in 1994.

If you're going to abandon this team because of a 9th pick in the draft, then you aren't a real fan to begin with.

BTW, Shandon Anderson is far from garbage.

    Rich-
Charles was acquired to get by Seattle and to keep up with the Bulls who acquired Rodman. Looking back yeah you could say it was a bad deal but I bet 90% of the GMs in the NBA make that move. Cassell is a nice point guard but he is no Charles Barkley. Also if it wasn't for injuries to CB during the Utah series we would have gotten at least one shot vs. the Bulls.
When we signed Pip we thought we were on the way to a championship. Still today I think a core of Dream-CB-Pip should have won. Chemistry was obviously a problem between Pip-Barkley although I don't think during the season it was a problem, or why would CB have continually defended Pip?
Also what would we have done w/ Rasheed. We already had CB at the PF and Dream at the Center. Neither CB or Sheed could run around the court with Grant Hill or other small, quick PF. I know we would have also caused matchup problems, but I think the only way we would have made that deal was if we also took the trade with Dream for Willis, Christie & the 2 first round picks. There would have been too many post players with Dream-CB & Sheed. Plus just imagine all the T's with Sheed competing with CB [IMG]

Rich, where did you hear that Sheed was offered for Pippen. I dont remember any such thing. Why would an intelligent GM like Bob Whitsitt offer his best player who is in his mid 20s for an over the hill disgruntled Pippen with back problems and a ridiculous contract?

".... but I think the only way we would have made that deal was if we also took the trade with Dream for Willis, Christie & the 2 first round picks ..."

Keeping the other aqcuisitions and hindsight being 20/20 we would have had a 2000 roster like this:

    5. (Maybe)Alex Radojevic/Willis/Pig Miller
    4. (Maybe) Wally Szczerbiak/ (or Maybe)Jonathan Bender/Barkley/KT
    3. (Maybe) Lamar Odom/Shandon Anderson
    2. Cuttino Mobely/Stacey Augamon
    1. Steve Francis/Doug Christie

    Plus:
    1. Cap space.
    2. Great trade exceptions, probably around $5 Million in the Toronto Deal, plus another $4 Million or so with the Francis Deal. Any respectable center out there would be on our list of who to spend it on.
    3. We would today, be presently arguing over where to announce the signing of Tim Duncan.

    Nah!!!!!!!!

According to waht Popeye said last year the Rockets tried to pry away Wallace or Grant away from the Blazers last year and they said no way.
On the Barkley trade Cassell and Horry would have ate up all our cap room for years to come and there is no market for an overpaid player with declining skills like Horry. Also on TNT one night Kenny Smith said that the Rockets offered Cassell a long term contract for good money and he turned it down and said he wanted to test the market. So in a sense they were backed into a corner.

Sherlock as far as the Twin towers go you cannot say they were not working out when that deal was offered since it was offered the same year Hakeem was drafted and they did make it to the finals shortly there after. The twin toers worked out fine until Ralph Sampson's knee injuries ruined his career. Had you known the future you make that deal in a second even if you know you will only been able to keep either Jordan or Drexler when free agency came along. However you don't know the future and you don't trade a budding superstar that could do the kind of things Ralph Sampson coulde do for draft picks. To bad we don't have a crystal ball, eh? I think though that had we had Jordan, Hakeem, and Clyde on the same team we would have one many championships but one of those 3 or possibly all of the players game would not have developed to the point where they are sure thing hall of famers.

You caught that huh? Can't I ever get away from you?

Okay, Houston would have parlayed those picks into something. Let's call that "something" the two picks for the #4 and we get Odom. I would have settled for that "maybe" and all the rest could have gone home. [IMG]

Sherlock you are a history major, and I appreciate the insight.

    Others:

A point to make here on the other posts. The number one asset that RT brought to this franchise is his firm belief that a committed scouting team is the backbone of the future. And he sold that philosophy to Les Alexander. They use their scouting operation almost as a farm developing system without all the hassle and expenditure of actually having to operate a farm team. Of course they do not own any rights of players, but they do own the knowledghe they gain. Some players thay watch and evaluate all the way from junior high, or some urban city YMCA league. This is what seperates them from the rest (or most of)the NBA teams. Their selections on draft are NOT haphazard or "shot in the dark" type selections.

To my knowledge, Rasheed Wallace was offered for Scottie Pippen during the early stages of the summer. The Rockets put the offer on the backburner, hoping to build a team that better fit Scottie Pippen's abilities. They then went out and acquired Steve Francis and Shandon Anderson. Then, as we all know, Pip went public, and we lost all of our leverage.

Ron-The Rockets have made nothing but brilliant moves. Getting Stevie, drafting Cuttino, signing Shan. Already they are looking to make the playoffs after a rebuilding season. If you can't stick with Houston through the good times and bad then you aren't a true Rockets fan.

Deanbcurtis for you to say that I am not a true Rockets fan hurts. I love the Rockets and any other Houston area team. My only motive for making that post was to knock some sense into everyone else. I just want the Rockets to draft DeMarr he's the best available. Two years from now I dont want to wonder why we didn't draft like when they drafted Drew and that garbage a#@ eurotrash over Lewis, a Houston area standout. The day I stop being a Rockets fan is the day I die.

Ron-that "Eurotrash" just might have been the key to us landing maybe Eddy Curry?

We traded him for a pick. If Detroit loses Hill, that pick is almost certainly lottery material.

... and that garbage a#@ eurotrash

Ron, I don't know what's your problem. After making your unsupported argument of ... one bad personell move after another, you come up with this trash???!!!

From your handle, I am assuming you are asian. How would you like people to refer you as that garbage a#@ asiantrash? Ask for respect only when you've respected others.

I have been a loyal supporter of Houston teams for over half my life...
After this last post, I have to assume you've been a Rockets fan for what ... 6 or 7 years?

And Anderson isnt trash and I dont really remember Barkley seriously calling out Drexler and Olajuwon.

I hope the Rockets dont pick DerMarr just to piss off RonChan. Rockets dont need no flimsy fans.

Dean's right- you may not be a true Rockets fan, or if you are you seem to lack some common sense. Anyone who can say Shandon Anderson, our 2nd best player, the only player for us who started every game, the only player who gives all out hustle every game, our top defender, and a good scorer is garbage needs to have thier head examined. No offense Ron, but that is ridiculous.

I really dig DerMarr & think he would fit well with the Rockets scheme. I just don't think the Rockets will be able to take him with out considering the size & game of Moiso.

But I agree with Crisco the Rockets should pass on DerMarr just because Ron Chan is a fruit!

I would like to take this time to apologize for expressing my own personal opinions in this forum. I dont know what got in my head to think that it was ok for me to express myself without having to take personal shots from you all, I must have thought we were all adults. I never expected the reaction that I got so I will leave. Have fun agreeing with one another, that is what you all do here right?

Ron-The reason people jumped on top of you, is because your title is basically that of a bandwagon fan. It's ok to be a fan of a player not on your team, but to leave your team because that player's not on it, ESPECIALLY in a situation where he very well could be gone by #9.

I'd say at least 90% of this board loves Shandon. He's an ideal type of player to have. Young, works hard, always improving, does dirty work for the team, does the little things, unselfish, not spoiled, and he took less pay to come here. I'd take 12 Shandons on my team if some of them were 7 feet tall, could block shots, or could play PG.

    Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.

Ron_Chan, you just let the Atlanta Hawks determine which NBA team you will root for. I think you should reconsider your proposition. Collier is one of the first guys the Rockets had in for a workout and they liked him a lot as I recall. Weren't he and Keyon Dooling named as two of the players moving up into the draft the fastest as the draft approached. That #11+ pick from Milwaukee should be valuable in next years's draft.
