Should the Rox be interested in acquiring this PG in the offseason? It seems that he's not happy in Seattle due to emergence of Watson and having qualms about having an extension...though I think Alston was an ok PG for this team except his bricking...haha
how much better is ridnour than alston? alston: 6-2 PG from Frenso State 11.3 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 6.8 apg in 38.1 minutes ridnour: 6-2 PG from Oregon 11.7 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 6.9 apg in 34.0 minutes
getting ridnour and expecting him to be better than skip is dumb. there isn't much difference between the two of them. you sit here and rip rafer because he doesn't shoot well and doesn't defend.....have you seen ridnour play? he's basically the same point guard, but actually shoots WORSE than rafter! he is shooting a whopping 26% from 3 pt. land (33% career). explain how this makes us better?
The irony of it is that the Sonics are actually one of the top teams in the league in points scored per game. You watch Ridnour and you'd think he's one of the best point guards in this league, the way he runs that offense. Their problem is that they just can't defend worth a crap. Everybody now wants to disregard the notion of a pure point guard because we're in a situation where we have a good distributor with no potent scorers to distribute to. What myopia.
You mean we could have played Mike James, and have a chance to sign Ridnour in case unable to resign MJ? Just kidding.
I know they have similiar stats but from the games I've seen, their games are worlds apart. He has flashes of Nash out there with some of those passes. Good outside shot when left open. Plays smart. Maybe I'm just catching his good games, but he make his teammates and team better when he steps on the floor. I don't see that when I'm watching Raf. I don't want to trash Raf, but I'd give them Raf and this year's pick for Ridnour, but I don't have a lot of faith on this year's pick and I just see it as a 3 year money pit. Personally, I'd like to see them trade us Ray Allen and Rignour for anyone not from China even if we pick up a bad contract or 2 as I know Seattle wants to shed more salary. But that's just me dreaming.
Would you have posted this if Ridnour was black? There always seems to be an obsession with white point guards.
Tell you what, I will take Tony Parker too...or Jason Kidd, or......WTF, does skin color have to do with basketball. I liked Reefer before he started laying more bricks than a Troy Aikman commercial... DD
This board gets giddy over white point guards - thinking they are all the next Stockton or Nash so I thought that might be a decent reason for you saying he is a "much better" player than Rafer. They are about even as shooters (both have really only had one good year from 3 range) and playmakers. Rafer is quicker, a better defender (not saying much since Luke is horrible), is stronger, and is a better rebounder. It is fine if you like Ridnour better (for whatever reason) but it is silly to say he is "much better".
Let's get either Ridnour or Watson. Both can shoot, protect the dribble, pass the ball, and run the offense relatively well. I'm not saying one or the other is greater than the other or Alston, but it would be nice to get one of them.
What we should consider doing is taking Danny Fortson off of Seattle's hands. That Macijauskas(?) kid supposedly wants out of NOOK also. Much better pick up is he can defend and shoot the 3 bawl. Since I love the hypothetical line ups so much... Yao/Mutumobo Fortson/Swift/Howard McGrady/Bogans/Bowen Macijauskas/Head/Bogans Alston/Wesley And your announcers, Bill Worrell, and Calvin Murphy! Sorry, but since it's hypothetical...
Being from Seattle and working for the Sonics, I've seen Ridnour's game up close on countless occasions. He's got great ball handling skills but has trouble creating his own shots. He would make a solid backup but I don't see how he can be better than RA. Also, ever since the Sonics picked up Earl Watson from Denver, they've become a completely different team. Watson not only took away some of Ridnour's playing time, he's also become a scoring threat and plays wonderful on the ball defense. Man, if only Rox could get him, we would be in much better shape.
Skip thrives when he has shooters around him and people that can run with him. He doesn't do well when he is pressured to score.
