Article on Beijing Aoshen and Sun Yue, a possible top draft pick from China. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/l...0,7743698.story?page=1&coll=la-home-headlines
I wonder if they are talking about former Rocket Vinson Hamilton in that article? As fur Sun, I've never seen him play but I have never been impressed with Chinese guards. Many are great shooters but that's about it.
This Sun Yue guy looks pretty good.. 6'8" guard with explosiveness and good court vision.... Del Harris said hes gonna be taken in the 1st round. Also nicknamed the next Andrei Kirelenko. I havent seen him play but read a lot of good things about him. We'll see.
Del Harris nicknamed Yi Jianlian the next Kirilenko if memory serves, not Sun Yue. Though I doubt both are comparable to Kirilenko based on what I've read about them.
It's actually Fred Vinson who's made a couple of brushes with the NBA but never stuck beyond a tryout or 10 contract or two. Sun is just the opposite of other Chinese guards. He doesn't shoot that well but is your prototypical jack of all trades SF. He's got good size, length, a nice handle, vision and b-ball IQ. I'm certain he'll make the league in a Shane Battier type role.
You had me at "6'8 guard with explosiveness"...I'm tired of our midgets at the 1-3 positions constantly getting beat for loose balls, penetration, rebounds, etc.
Well we're talking "explosiveness" by international standards. He's not exactly Josh Smith. If you compare him to a typical draft class, I'd say that he has slightly above average athleticism for a swingman. But like I said, he's got great size, length and skills. And that's legit. He's not hidden away in some foreign b-ball league where it's a chore to scout him. He's been playing for an ABA team based in southern Cali this past year, and gotten the notice of a number of scouts. In fact, I read on another board that Ric Bucher was at one of his games, so I wouldn't be suprised if he does an ESPN the magazine article on Sun. He's not going to be a PG in the NBA, but Point-forward wouldn't be a stretch.
