Ok guys I looking for some help on picking between these two TVs below..

    http://www.samsung.com/Products/TV/DLPTV/HLR5667WAXXAA.asp

    http://www.samsung.com/Products/TV/DLPTV/HLR5087WXXAA.asp

I can find these two TVs for almost the same price, but the one that comes with a built in stand is a 50" and leaves less of a footprint and IMO looks nicer, but the other one is a 56" and is bulkier and will take up more room.. from what I have read they are almost identical in terms of features and use the same DLP system in each..

If you were going to pick between the two which would you pick and why?? Also, does anyone have anything good or bad to say about Samsung TVs???

    Thanks in advance

my brother recently bought the first one you listed.

    he loves it.

he has his desktop computer hooked up to hit and uses it as his PC monitor too.

seems like a good tv to me.. if you've got 4 grand lying around to spend..

Can't really go wrong with either. If you buy one check samsclub.com, all of their big screens come WITH the TV stands.

Bigger is not always better, it depends on how far you are going to sit away from the set. I think they have some suggestions in the AVI forum but I don't remember the link.

why don't you like the 1080? I have about the lowest end HDTV there is and I don't have HD programming but I have and xbox 360 and the games look absolutely georgous when in 1080i.

The second TV is the better one. Take a look on CNET's reviews. Personally I think the stand is horrible looking, but that is where the the TV's light engine is, so it can't be removed. The only thing wrong with DLP's is the rainbow effect that they can produce on the screen. This is for all DLP's though. I think the 5087 does a pretty good job of reducing this.

I don't know if it is my cable or what but the picture sometimes seems to "lag".. like, the colors/images won't load correctly or on time.

As I understand 1080 is better for still images, while 720 is better for sports/games as it deals with fast/changing images better.

You must realize that there is a difference between 1080p and 1080i. 1080p is what is considered 'True HD' meaning it has the highest resolution availible. Most HD TV's that you see out there are can only produce the 1080i and 720 resolution. The 1080p TV's are out there but you probably can't find one for less than $2500.

    Wes....

Yes you can. Westinghouse has a 32" and a 37" for both under 2k.

    I have 1 32" and 2 37" ones...and I love em.

Thanks for the help guys.. I guess I'm having a hard time with the trade off of what is IMO a nicer looking TV vs a bigger TV.. Right now I think I'm leaning towards the 50", but I'm still not 100% on it yet..

I'm sure you've found good prices already, but the 50 inch is on sale at Tiger Direct for $1,699 after rebate with free shipping. The 56 inch 1080p one looks like it is $2,650 - seems like a good deal...

Believe it or not, some of the most highly regarded DLPs on AVSForum are the new HP DLPs.

I picked up a Samsung HL-R5067W about 8 months ago and have been most pleased with it.
Picture is great....good viewing angles even off to the sides.

now that I look at the specs...I wonder if Im showing the right one..I thought the one I got was a 1080...but the page at Samsung shows it as 720p.

Most HDTV's can handle 720p and 1080i. The 1080p option is a fairly new thing.
