Attendance at Rockets games as been near the league bottom since 1999. We were even below the Hornets when they were forced to leave Charlotte because of their crummy situation.

Fielding a successful team last year with a bran new Superstar in T-Mac, we were still 23rd in attendance. Even if we can stop the losing seasons and put together a run of playoff appearances, will this city ever care about the team enough to sell out the arena if they don't deliver a championship?

A consistent playoff hero would probably be enough. These days, fans are just dying for someone to root.

We have 2 superstars who post great numbers, but none have picked up their game to dominating levels like Dream in the only season that matters to this city...

Another factor other than the disappointing performance of the team is that the Toyota Center is one of the very most expensive arena to watch an NBA game in. Nobody will consistently want to pay premium prices for the inferior product that is our underachieving team.

I also think that Van Gundy's brand of ugly basketball contributes to the bad attendence as well. There's simply not enough motivation and excitement for fans to shell out big dough to watch such an offensively inept team. Even JVG's hallmark defense has been nowhere to be found recently. And JVG himself is certainly not helping with his ever snide comments to the media about his team's hopeless ineptitude.

In short, people won't buy if you keep trying to charge top dollars for a crappy product.

Yes, I believe a healthy Yao, TMac, and an absent JVG would bring back attendence, and I imagine, by now, even Les is beginning to get that picture.

A team that actually starts winning and looks promising is what will bring fans back to the stadium. As much as I love the Rockets, the prices of the tickets means each game better be worth it. I am sure alot of those with the money to go to the games are thinking that if they are going to be paying this money they want to see their home team win. That's all there is to it. If we start to win they will come.

Getting rid of JVD would be a start, I don't know about anybody else but I am pretty burned out with that midget as the coach. Unfortunately, I don't see him going anywhere soon.

Another reason the Rockets will always be in the bottom half of the league in attendance is stadium size. The Toyota Center is one of the smaller stadiums in the NBA. Not as small as the Compaq Center, but still small. But since the thread starter took his statement back to 1999, you have to keep in mind how small the Compaq Center was.

The Rockets currently rank 27th out of 30 teams in attendance.

If the Rockets sold out every game (18,300/game), they'd be 10th. Not that great.

But of course, you should know by now that JVG is responsible for every single bad thing that has ever happen in the history of the world.......

Even considering percentages the rockets are low. They still only sell 16 and something thousand tickets in a 19 thousand seat arena.

I'm not sure the Toyota Center is that much more expensive than other new arenas around the league

I think a Division Title would do the trick. When was the last time that happened? 97?

    Rocekts Games Are Bigoted.
Clutch proliferates the stereotype that Bears are mischievous.

I don't want to promote Intolerance.

Last years team was very entertaining to watch. Not so this year. Injuries, poor personnel moves, poor shooting, long loosing streaks, etc. Not much to get excited about, unentertaining.

Also ,clanking shot after shot is just debilitating. Even TMac had a poor shooting year. Poor shooting just sucks the life out of a team. It discourages everyone, especially the players. Running down the court, fighting for positon, setting up the play, changing position, re-establishing position, and then "clank." Then you run down the court, swish. Run back to your goal, fight, reset, pass, fight, reset, clank! Repeat process. Not fun to watch, not fun to play.

Well, I'm not really a "you guys", I am me. And, of course, JVG or any coach is responsible for everything good or bad that happens to a team. The personel JVG employs, the system JVG employs, even the substitution patterns he uses are responsible in part for the abyssmal product that has been presented to the Rockets fans, at a very high price. If we had good attendance and now we have bad attendance it must at least partially, and I think greatly, reflect on JVG. He has made the team boring and predictable and not very much fun to watch.

    Winning cures everything.

If you put a winning team on the court, people will come.

Especially if the team gets off to a hot start and people get interested early, the momentum carries through the year.

I know of a couple dozen mini-season plans, and 4 or so full-season tickets that were not renewed due to the way Le$ kicked Rudy T. out and/or the hiring of Mr. Van Gundy....

Rrright... cause the attendance was so stellar in Rudy's last 5 years.

And that includes the last year of Hakeem/Drexler/Barkley, and the first year of Yao Ming.
