    World Record Ebay Auction

Is this real, or will the winner receive a cardboard box loaded with styrofoam "peanuts?" This is crazy!

Seriously, though, this would be absolutely nuts if someone actually made 180,000 bucks just for bidding on an option.

The key here is that the winning bidder has to pay. Now if goldenpalace.com shows up, there are going to be some mighty happy folks assuming the seller follows through.

So buyer pays-up, seller takes the money and buys a bunch of junk at wholesale making a nice retail profit (w/ minimal overhead). No big deal.

no one is going to buy the box for $3mil. at this point everyone should know that. So what happens if this guy wins and never pays up. No one is in the business of giving away millions of dollars and this is essentially what would be happening here. I suspect a legit bidder would not bid more than $50,000 and even that would have to be a complete moron.

Even though the winning bidder won't pay (I'm assuming), doesn't the seller still get charged by eBay for making a sale, as a percentage of the winning bid price?

Wow. I'm not sure what the percentage is, but even if it's something small like 0.5%, the seller is going to be screwed out of like $15,000...

If the winning bidder doesn't pay he can file a non-paying bidder alert and he is not responsible for any of the charges. The high bidder will also get a "non-paying strike" against their account which can be viewed by sellers.

I know. But it all depends if the winning bidder pays. If the winner doesn't pay, then NO ONE gets money.

Did goldenpalace.com ever say what was in the mystery envelope they bought on ebay?

Just about to post the same question. How much did they end up paying for it?

I think technically I am, but they can just file a non-paying bidder strike against me... I don't think anyone seriously believes the high bidder is going to pay.
