Najera might only be a second-round pick, but he wanted to ensure he would be in someone's camp after the Chicago combine. He should be picked after his performance at the Moody Bible Institute. He didn't put up big numbers (11.7 ppg, 5.3 rpg), but his activity and controlled aggressive play on defense would make him a must in an NBA camp. Najera worked out for Houston, and he might pick up another workout or two after the draft camp.

    NIKEstrad,

Why did the article state the height of Najera at 6-foot-6 and one-quarter in Chicago and then further in the report say he was 6'8"?

I suppose the 6'6'' height was what he was actually measured at, and the 6'8'' is his college (and pro?) list height.

    NIKEstrad,

I realize that listed and actual heights are quite often different. My plaint is that the author of the article had the correct info on the height and still used bogus numbers later in the same writeup.

the 6'6.5 is his height on his bare feet. Nobody goes by that height, it's the height with your shoes on and Eduardo is closer to 6'7. Even 6'6 is a good height for a SF, but at 6'7 Najera would matchup with most guys in the league. I warned yall that Rudy likes tough SOB type players who play with heart i.e. Mario Elie, Othella. All year long most of yall trashed the guy and look, he might be your backup SF.

Would Malik Rose be a fair comparison for Najera in the pros? I would certainly be pleased if the Rockets got a guy like that in the second round.

    Soonerockstro,
Easy there big fella.....he just worked out for us. That means very little in terms of him signing a contract. I, for one, would not mind having him here as a backup. At least he has desire and plays hard. His skills can be polished over time. We need a banger or two.

The Rockets need a leader and Eduardo Najera can bring that to the Rockets.

Eduardo fits this team ideally because he does not demand the ball ala Mobley and Francis.

He brings defense and in no time at all, Eduardo can become the starting Sf and backup pf for the Rockets!!!!!!!

He's got to be one of the toughest SOB's that I've seen playing basketball, a no nonsense guy, A LEADER MATERIAL for the Rockets!!!!!!!!!!

You're right on the money vince. That's why I consider him my favorite all-time Sooner, because the effort and emotion he shows on the court is unlike most and their are only a handful of players like him. If we don't get him it probably won't hurt us if we get someone good at #38, but adding him could be a major plus. The chances of him coming to Houston are slim anyway when you think 28 other teams could draft him and we could draft anyone out of a large pool of players, so I won't hold my breath but would be overjoyed to see Rudy add him to the roster. Just get someone who has shown talent in the past who could be a sleeper or someone pretty solid is the goal of any second round pick, so it's a crapshoot even in the late first round. I just hope Rudy pulls another Cuttino Mobley out of his bag of tricks.

Yes, I agree. He could come off the bench at 3 alongside Cat at 2 -- talk about "energy guys"!

It would also be a good business decision -- he's from mexico, and the Rockets are very popular in Mexico City. South Texas has a large Hispanic population, as well.

If we're going to be depending on a second round pick as our leader, then we are in trouble.

OK, I realize that Anderson and Mobley were second round picks, but when they were picked, they weren't counted on as being a leader.

Dude, Eduardo isn't an undersized 4, he is a sized just right 3. He only played 4 in college because OU needed someone to play their when Ryan Humphrey transferred to Neuter Dame. He was never a 4 and has already left behind the PF tag as he played SF at the Chicago camp. He would be a great backup SF to Walt for next to nothing dollar-wise.

Funny, I'll have to use that one [IMG]

Coming from a T-sip, I think Najera would be a good second round pick for us. He does have the mold of a hustle bench player who has a winning attitude, is feisty, and can shoot a little. Those guys are good to have.

El Hoopo would get eaten alive at the 3 in the NBA. He is not nearly athletic enough. Gabe will be a better pro than Najera.

Eduardo is actually pretty athletic according to recent articles. He has healed up all his injuries and lost 10 pounds since the season. Monter and Katz have both stated that he played some pretty tenacious defense at Chicago and got on the boards as well. He did average 11.5 points in the camp, so from what the experts are saying he looked pretty good. How did Gabe look? I didn't hear anything. I don't know if he even went.

I dont about gabe, but nba talk.com had coverage in chicago, and i believe gabe was the stars of one of the nights. I think he also made the all-tourney team in another pre-draft camp.

To me, the drafting or signing of El Hoopo would be a signal of the apolcalypse. Last year we draft my second most hated college player (KT). There can be no way we will draft my most hated college player ever. Plus, I don't relly see him having a particularly great NBA career. The guy is tough and is a winner and leader. He does not fit our needs as we already have an undersized 4 who can't play D.

Watching the OU-Cincinatti game last year told me all I needed to know about El Hoopo's pro potential.

That was one bad game where he was double and tripled teamed because OU had basically no one to matchup with Cincinnati's trees. I think his great performances far out-weighed his bad ones. For example, he torched Chris Mihm and Gabe Muoneke for 28 pts and 16 rebs. and then went for 31 pts and 8 rebounds against the same team. Then he lit up Marcus Fizer for 25 pts and around 10 rebs. Oh, and don't forget when went for a double-double against OSU while Desmond Mason went for the ole Robert Horry goose-egg. I also seem to remember Eduardo knocking down 7 straight free throws in OT against Mizzou and scoring 30 in the game to win it in dramatic fashion. He also led his team to a 27-6 record but bowed out in the second round. Man I guess leading a bunch of young role players to one of the best records in school history isn't worth noting. Give me a break, Eduardo is way better than one performance against the #1 team in the nation. I guess Steve Francis sucks because of that 1 point game against the Lakers. Boy I guess we should just release him or something. Come on!

double and triple teams are part of the game.

Fizer is not a good defender.

Cincinatti's starting center was Kenyon Martin, not exactly a tree.
