Just saw them on the NBA pregame show on ABC. Patrick ask all of them...what has gotten into Yao lately? Scotti- "The most dominate player in the 2nd half." Wilbon- "The agressive player that we had had expected, where has he been?" M. Jackson- "The best player since the all-star break where he's dominating in the paint and knocking people down" All had agreed they would rather build a team around Yao then T-Mac. Surprisingly, they did not mention his toe problem in the past which could've hinder his performance.
Well Mark Jackson said Yao was the MVP of the second half of the season, i think you left that part of the discussion out.
That's all well and good, but Scottie's opinion holds about as much water as a sinking Titanic. This is the same guy who said that KG is the most overrrated player etc. Meh, I do appreciate Jax's opinion though. He was saying preety much the same thing when he was calling the Rockets-Nets game last week for the Nets.
I've always thought KG was overrated. He's the 2nd coming of Quitten. Do everything else player, but score in the clutch. KG could be a monster if he didn't play like a freakin Guard sittin on the perimeter taking J's. He's also got a sub par Back to the basket game. He's had a great year when he had Cassel closing out games for him the year They met the lakers in the WCF.
My major gripes with KG are things that I think ALL dominant big men must have: 1. Ability to get to the foul line 2. Must command a double team Until he can do that, he in my mind is not a cornerstone of a championship type team.
While KG might be overrated, he's not the most overrated ever (which is what Scottie claimed AFAIK..). Personally, I don't think KG is as overrated as some of his critics think. Can he have a better back to the basket game?Yes. But I think his overall game is splendid. He does need other players (aka A sam Cassell) to close out games for him/help him in the clutch. Anyways, I don't want to get this thread moved to Dish so enough about KG . I find it funny that Scottie would change his tune so quickly about Yao. He was trashing him a little while ago and today he's the most dominant player. Meh, dumb analysts :/ ...
IMO, KG is a 7'1" small forward, because he plays like one. It's probably too late to ask him to develop this part of his game, but that's why a guy like Yao is twice as valuable as KG as because of his inside dominance and his ability to consistently draw attention with double and triple teams. Although KG is a better defender and rebounder (while Dirk is a much better jumper-shooter), he's on par with Dirk as far as star players in this league are concerned. Not a knock on him, but not quiet that 'dominant' and 'great' and 'unstoppable' force that most people associate with a great player. He's consistent as hell, but he doesn't dominate...that will eventually be how his career is summed up.
Isn't KG 6'11"? Anyways, if the deal is right, I wouldn't mind getting KG for McGrady... Health issues on T-Mac certainly is the reason why the Rockets should build around Yao (isn't what the Rockets are doing for the past few years after Yao was drafted?)... The important part is the number and the quality of "side dishes" that CD has to give away and receive
KG is listed at 6'11" because he didn't want to be thought of as a 7 footer when he entered the league. He was probably 7 feet then, and he grew a couple inches after he entered the league. The NBA never lists heights correctly, it's all up to what the player and team choose to list them as (Dream was 6'10", not 7').
Lol, good catch. I meant to say that it would hold water out/keep the water out as well as a sinking Titanic .
I always wondered why Garnett never developed a great post game. With Kevin McHale a member of the Timberwolves, shouldn't KG have picked up some post moves by now?
I agree with you but not with Wilbon-- Michael Wilbon has always defended Yao ever since his rookie year.
