Some year, if the stars align properly, Kerry Wood might win 15 games in a season.

Over his 7 year career, his average record is 10-8. He makes ~$10M this season.

prior seems to have the same problems. they can't find a pitching coach out there to help with mechanics???

When Prior came out of USC, he was roundly hailed in baseball circles as having "perfect mechanics", correlating to him not being an injury risk at all.

He does not have the same delivery he did as a college pitcher/rookie. Who's fault this is I have no idea, some pitchers are stubborn (Wade Miller).

p.s. pgabs...Wood's high school coach in Duncanville ran him into the ground. That practice didn't stop when he came to the Cubs. Dusty does not have a good rep for dealing with young pitchers.

buck, i remember hearing that about prior. and now people talk about him having bad mechanics that lead to injury. i don't know what that's about either.

I think Prior will bounce back this season. He probably would have had a nice season last year if not for that freak injury. I spent a 1st round pick on the guy so I hope it pans out.

kerry wood was in trouble before baker got there, but baker routinely pitching him 150 pitches probably didn't help. why the cubs, with the majors best young pitching staff would trust their staff with someone like baker, who has ruined many a pitcher's career, has to be cataloged as one of the dumbest gm decision in sports history.

Prior could miss start of season with shoulder strain
    Associated Press

MESA, Ariz. -- Chicago Cubs pitcher Mark Prior has a strained right shoulder and could miss the beginning of the season -- a diagnosis that did not deter the team Thursday.

The Cubs had feared something worse.

"I'm very pleased," Cubs team trainer Mark O'Neal said of the initial report. "There's bad news, extremely bad news, that could come out of it.

"Right now, if this is a posterior shoulder strain, we're going to deal with it like you would a hamstring strain. Unfortunately, it's in the shoulder. So yes, for us, it's pretty good news," he said.

Prior visited Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles on Wednesday, a day after feeling pain in his right shoulder before he could take the mound for a bullpen session.

Prior was scheduled to have an MRI exam in Los Angeles on Thursday to determine whether his shoulder has suffered more extensive damage.

Yocum and the Cubs medical staff will meet in Arizona on Saturday to discuss Prior's status and determine a course of action.

Prior has not thrown in an exhibition game this spring, but the Cubs have insisted there has been nothing wrong with him and that the shoulder problem came up just this week.

The team said it was easing Prior into action because elbow problems limited him to just one exhibition start over the previous two springs.

Prior was 11-7 with a 3.67 ERA in 27 starts last season. He began the 2005 season on the disabled list with inflammation in his right elbow, but he missed just his first start. He later missed almost one month after being hit on the right elbow by a line drive in late May.

Prior has a lifetime record of 41-23 with a 3.24 ERA.

i remember back when i was a young lad, i drafted a guy named mark prior in the 6th round of my league's fantasy draft. great pick i told myself, he'll be one of my keepers for the next decade. great pick everyone else told me after it turned out he was as awesome as i knew he was, he'll be one of your keepers for the next decade.

years later, it has been nothing but injury piled upon injury. whether it's pitching related, slamming into someone on the basepaths related, or getting drilled in the elbow by a line drive related, it's always something. so i believe i will finally listen to my head instead of my heart this year and drop him from my team.
