South Park wouldn't be South Park if it didn't cross the line. That being said, I'm sad to see Isaac Hayes quit, however, the "Scientology" episode was one of the best ever, and portrayed "Scientology" exactly as I've always seen it: Not a religion... More like... A ridiculous, idiotic cult based on the bizarre rantings of a lunatic science fiction writer that deserves to be mocked Any questions?
they were on letterman tonight, they didn't really say anything about it other than he quit. no new light shed on a new character or just a new voice.
what is the difference between a Religion and a Cult? to some people. . it seem like the number of people that beleive it Rocket River
Link Inside Move: 'South Park' feeling some celeb heat? Cable net abruptly pulls repeat of Scientology episode By MICHAEL FLEMING A repeat of the Scientology episode of 'South Park' was pulled by Comedy Central. The battle between "South Park""South Park" creators Trey ParkerTrey Parker and Matt StoneMatt Stone and Scientology is escalating. The dust-up gained steam last week when Isaac Hayes, a practicing Scientologist who has long been the voice of the character Chef, quit after objecting to a "South Park" episode called "Trapped in the Closet," which lampooned both the religion and Tom CruiseTom Cruise. The skirmish continued this week, when Comedy CentralComedy Central abruptly pulled a repeat of that episode that was scheduled to air Wednesday evening. Showing instead was another memorable segseg which featured Hayes's character, called "Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls." Blog reports pegged the mysterious episode switch to objections raised by Cruise, who, the reports stated, threatened to not promote "Mission: Impossible 3," the summer tentpole for ViacomViacom-owned Paramount. A spokesman for Cruise denied that Cruise had ever made such a threat. "He never said any such thing about 'Mission: Impossible 3," the spokesman said. While the "South Park" creators didn't directly comment on Comedy Central's decision to pull the episode, they issued an unusual statement to Daily Variety indicating the battle is not over. "So, Scientology, you may have won THIS battle, but the million-year war for earth has just begun! Temporarily anozinizing our episode will NOT stop us from keeping Thetans forever trapped in your pitiful man-bodies. Curses and drat! You have obstructed us for now, but your feeble bid to save humanity will fail! Hail Xenu!!!" The duo signed the statement "Trey Parker and Matt Stone, servants of the dark lord Xenu." South Park Rules!!!
I can't believe they blinked at that Cruise threat. Cruise has a lot riding on the MI3 himself. He'd be a moron to not promote his own movie.
Gotta love Parker and Stone. Those guys are like the Barkley of TV comedies. You can get into a battle/war with them if you want, and you may even get a few shots in that are notable, but there is no WAY you wil the war. They will make you look silly, because they are just too damn clever.
hey check it out, apparently the next episode's gonna poke fun in some way at the whole chef/isaac hayes thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Return_of_Chef
He was on the Opie and Anthony show on XM Satelite Radio a while back, and a caller asked him about this episode, and he said that's what South Park does. They rip everybody. He had no problem with it then. I think Tom Cruise and the rest of the Scientologists got to him and made him quit.
to take an even stranger twist i was listening to the radio this morning here in la and they had one of those celeb gossip guys on and apparently there could be a new devlopment in this. isaac hayes may not have made the statement as once believed. apparently he had a stroke and has been recovering since early january. the guy on the radio said that the new rumors were that it was the church of scientology that in some ways fabricated it to try to show that they wouldnt take it. i guess they took advantage of hayes' affiliation and is rehabbing to do this. i dont know if its 100% true this is just what i heard this morning. This would explain why 'chef' hasnt made any appearances on the most recent episodes. but i would guess that hayes and his agent would have made some sort of debunking statement by now about this. i mean his popularity has shot through the roof thank to south park i dont see why he would cut off his only real source of fame at this point in his career. the fact that he hasnt yet leads me to believe that he may have made the statement but the "church" exagerrated it. at this point the damage may have been made and even if hayes tried to revoke the statement it would do no good. at the same time hayes been through a lot worse on that show when it came to discriminating against other cultures/religions/movies/people fine. he seems to be a guy who has a good sense of humor. thats all if i can find a link about the info i heard this morning on the radio here i'll post it later.
does seem kinda out there, but if he truely was upset about the episode, why would he wait until now to voice his opinion about it? it aired in the middle of november, and he waits until now to say something? maybe they did "get to him"
