Recent speculation has it that Houston would be interested in acquiring Othella Harrington back from the Grizzlies. If this is true, how fair do you think is this deal?: To Houston Othella Harrington The first round pick which the Rockets owe the Grizzlies. To Vancouver Pick #9 in this year's draft and/or Bullard and/or a second rounder. How much does Bullard make? How fair is this deal? Would it interest you if you were the Rocket's GM? ------------------
The ONLY way that deal could work is if we took Othella and the no 9 pick out... so we give you Bullard for our no 1 pick next year (and maybe we could give the grizz a second rounder too...) ........ ------------------
Why do Grizzlie fans think that a LOTTERY PICK can be had for Othella? When he was talking about picks, he didn't mean the 5-10 range. Besides, we don't have to give you the pick for another 2 years, and since its conditional, we can pick up a late pick and send it on over to you. WE DO NOT need Harrington back. As many have said, he doesn't fit our system. He may be young, but he's not very athletic, can't shoot outside 5 feet, AWFUL defender, and poor passer. I'll take Moiso, Johnson, Miller or if we're lucky, Miles over Harrington every day of the week. ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
Bullard will make near $2 million next season, I believe. However, no I don't think the trade is equitable. Maybe Harrington for Bullard and the second-rounder? That sounds fair to me. Harrington was a fan favorite when he played here, but his value has recently dropped precipitously, it seems. I have to agree with my compatriots that he doesn't fit our system too well anymore. If we had him, he'd have to be a bench player. ------------------ http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
GrizzFan -- out of curiosity when you say "recent speculation", you're just referring to the talk on the board, correct? I say no deal... unless Vancouver is interested in Cato and the #9 for the #2 -- which they're not. We picked Othella with pick #30 -- not about to trade a losing season for him back when we have Kenny Thomas. But it's not as bad of a proposition as some may think, being that draft pick we give to Vancouver could be a problem down the road (though you can always acquire a late first rounder and part with that one). ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
Clutch, I did see it talked about on some other site (not a BBS). I believe it said that the Grizz would be looking for a pick in the 15-20 range for Othella if I'm not mistaken. But it also mentioned that there was speculation that if the right pick isn't there for Rockets, they may decide to bring back Othella. The site did say that it was "speculation," I'm sure of that. ------------------ [This message has been edited by TraJ (edited June 07, 2000).]
If Miles or Johnson were around at the #9, I would be very shocked. I have heard Harrington going as high as #10 to Orlando. Talent wise, he isn't worth a lottery pick but if you include his contract, it inflates his value. ------------------
The 2 likely candidates at #9 will be Moiso, and either Miller, or Dermarr. It should be one of those 2, unless they both go, and Tsakalidis doesn't go top 8, then Alexander or Moiso would the 2 guys. My order of guys that have any chance at being at #9- 1. Miles 2. Johnson 3. Moiso (almost a toss up with DJ) 4. Miller 5. Tsakalidis 6. Oyededji 7. Stevenson 8. Alexander (just not what we need....if we didn't have Shandon and Cat, he'd probably be about #2) ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
I love Othella, but no way would I give up a lottery pick for him. First, his contract...while it isn't huge, I just wouldn't want to trade a lottery pick's contract for en established vets contract. Second, the lottery pick's potential could be much higher than Harrington. I'd have to get more than Othella if I am giving up a lottery pick. ------------------ We need some meat in the post!
I just brought this whole thing up because it has been reported and basically confirmed by the Vancouver media that Harrington is on the block, and the sportstalk radio shows and message boards are naming Houston as a possible suitor. As for the proposed deal, I just made it up myself. I thought it was pretty fair, but I guess I was wrong. As for the first rounder, the Grizzlies are in a similar situation in that they owe Detroit a pick (18 or better), and are having a devil of a time in getting one to give away. Houston may be in the same situation one day, albeit a pick in the twenties is a lot easier to acquire than one no worse than 18. ------------------
Clutch-exactly. I wouldn't be too surprised if they got one from us this year, via Orlando, via Phoenix (#25). ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
