I am surprised Kerr didnt mention Kurt Thomas, Nzar Mohammed or Desagna Diop!......considering in Kerr's world only 3 teams are relevant, Suns, Spurs and Mavs.
Kaman got the nod because the Clippers is better than us this year, and don't forget this was wrote after they beat Mini, and Kaman had 20+pt & 20+ rb. But to put him as #2, hmmm, maybe Kerr is taking a shot at Shaq?
Wow...just wow. 11.7 and 9.4 qualifies for a 'breakthrough season'...the standards are very different depending on what the expectations are of you...
Steve Kerr is a doofus, everyone here knows that. Go back to the TMac miracle comeback against the Spurs and listen to him yell "NOOOOOOOOOOO" again when TMac sinks that last shot.
And we have to remember one thing too. When they played against each other on December 18, Yao Ming was playing with a swollen bad toe (stepped on by Danny Fortson of Seattle Supersonics). Yet Yao Ming completely outplayed and owned Chris Kaman in that game: Yao Ming: 37 minutes of play, 22 points (9/17 FG% 4/4 FT%), 7 rebounds, 2 personal fouls Chris Kaman: 24 minutes of play, 1 point (0/4 FG% 1/2 FT%), 3 rebounds, 4 personal fouls. Chris Kaman, 2nd best centre in the league ???? Tsk Tsk Tsk....... Steve Kerr is just amazingly pathetic. Another certified Yao Hater !!
You think Yao should be mad. What about Mehmet Okur? He's the one actually having the breakout season. What about Brad Miller? He's been putting up Chris Kaman numbers for the last 5 years. What about Ilgauskus? He hasn't scored as few ppg as Kaman is scoring this year since 01. What about Channing Frye? In almost 10 mpg less than Kaman he's managed to score more and rebound almost as well (per minute). What about Ben Wallace? He was an all-star, right? What abotu Zaza Pachulia? He sucks and his stats are almost on par with Kaman's? What about Jamal Magloire? He's having a bad year but giving you as much as Kaman does. ----------------------------------- I actually like Chris Kaman. But I also realize he is what he is - an improving solid choice at center, but top 10, NOT to 2 or 3.
It's just not cool to like Yao. He's an international sensation, like Abba. Everyone secretly likes Abba, but we're all too cool to admit they are any good.
I actually used to like reading Kerr's stuff, but it's pretty sad how much he focuses on putting down Yao (this is at least the third time that I recall). This last time was the least justified, by FAR. Wait. If yao was averaging 11/9, he'd have his head handed to him on a platter by the media, yet Kamen is getting second billing-pivot status for putting up PJ Brown numbers?? Better yet, Yao's been on the tear of his career... and I can't help but think out loud... If Kamen didn't have that 20-20 night, would that article still have been written? I doubt it. Stuart
he knows yao is the best center. as a sportswriter, maybe he is encouraged and forced to say controversial stuff at times.
Clutch, you got the math wrong: Kaman: 300 min, 28.6% shooting, 63 points, 57 boards You cheated by inserting that little dot that should have not been there on first place.
