I used to listen to Jim Rome daily, even was a member of the Streamlink thing from the site. Now, I am getting to the point of can't standing the guy. If it wasn't the bandwagoning flip flopping that he constantly does, he now has jumped the shark for me.

First, the NASCAR flip. He HATED NASCAR, ragged on it constantly, but when the ratings started going higher and higher he suddenly changed his tune.

He hated Barkley, until he came on the show, and then Rome started loving Barkley.

He talked about not drinking, but now he talks about drinking a few 'pops'.

Now today, he ragged on Jerry Rice for joining with 'dancing with the stars', but today he is saying the Rice has changed his mind about it.

Next thing you know, Rome will love WWE and start having wrestlers on the show.

Hey, I know as we get older our perspective changes, and our idea on people and topics change. But I have been having a hard time taking him seriously when he has flip flipped so much recently. Just like how he has ragged on the WBC big time. If the US wins the WBC with an epic, 13-inning showdown with the Dominicans, Rome start jocking it.

I am starting to have a problem with sports talk in general for the same issues. Before Capers was fired, I remember jocks saying that he should get another year and it was a total talent problem. The DAY after Capers was fired, it was all about how bad the coaching staff was, how we need to get new ideas in here and maybe the players weren't that bad. Just makes it hard to take anyone seriously. There are a few that stick to their guns, regardless how popular or unpopular that opinion is. I might not agree, but I will respect them more.

Hate to go myspace on everyone here, but just had to get that off my chest.

Man, I thought this was about the HBO series, which I love. Carry on!

(Rome, the guy, is an idiot)

i love the show for it's ridiculousness (which i'm sure isn't a word).

the stupid part, imo, is not him flip-flopping, but the people that come back to do an interview after he rips'em.

my problem with Rome is that it's essentially the same show everyday. he gets great interviews. the guys who come on the show are his saving grace, in my mind.

but the schitck. man...it's the same thing day after day. i've been listening to him since he came to the Houston market in 97 (i THINK it was 97). it hasn't changed. the same takes. the same "inside" jokes.

    except...as you say...his opinions. which flip-flop violently...in a very opportunistic fashion.

i still listen sometimes...but for the most part, at 11 a.m. i hit play on the CD until the local guys come back on in the afternoon.

I agree. I used to tune in to Rome's radio show daily, but not anymore. His takes are no anywhere near as clever as they were in the past. And the interviews are horrible. I think I am scheduled to stop by in studio sometime next week. Rome will have anybody on the show, and 95% of the guys I could care less who they are and what they are talking about. Futhermore, Rome gives a horrible radio interview. I don't believe we need to here the the name of the person Rome is interviewing 20 times throughout the interview. Listen, I know you've all heard it.

When he first came on in Houston, I loved him. Me and all my friends said "out" when we hung up the phone, we called eachother 'clones', we added the phrase "that is epic" to our vocabulary, etc.

After a while, it does get old. I probably haven't listened to him in a good 6 years or so for the same reasons everyone else lists in this thread.

I can listen to Rome, nothing spectacular but I don't mind it. It's when he starts taking callers, however, that it becomes like sticking needles in your ears. Painful, painful listening.

I've become a Dan Patrick listener. Rome's interviews are brutal, unless he has someone really outspoken like Steve Elkinton on. Patrick gets better guests and gets them on first.

I never was really into him as much as I was into the callers. they made the show great imo. now he allows guys to read their calls when its obvious. but if rome stuck to his old school callers, I would listen as much as I could.

the flip flop on nascar is kind of weak, notice he doesn't pump up hockey as much either.

I, too used to listen to Rome daily. His show has just gotten old. He does get good guests, but the interviews are rarely good. Dan Patrick is clever and he asks good questions and puts the people on the spot. not just the softballs that Rome tosses

did anyone hear his interview with seth joyner, that was pretty good, it was a few months back. his better interviews are probably enhanced by the guest, but he does have some good ones. like the former mafia bookie.

Rome became a clone of himself. I have tried to listen from time to time but the abundance of calls/email about the spitting coke on the monitors because he is soo funny are just too much. But I really don't know how yall can take LZ after all these years. He is a wee bit full of himself. I can't take much sports radio anymore. I mean it's just sports on and on and on and on like it's really important. Dean and Rog call it "Sports Blubber". I now agree.

I find myself growing out of it to, but the political talk shows are so slanted I stick to sports.

I still like listening to him. Some of the stuff does get played out, but I think most of the time his show is pretty damn funny.
