You do an analysis like this for any player in the league and that player's going to look like LaRue Martin. His comments about Yao guarding VC are about as absurd as I have ever seen. It's just like saying "McGrady is so skinny that he is extraordinarily too weak to guard anyone bigger and stronger than him like Shaq."

The idea that Yao is so mechanical in the post that it only allows him to score 36 on 17 shots is about the stupidest thing I've ever heard. If that's mechanical, every player in the leaque would want to be a robot.

Can you guys imagin how the NBA would look like once Yao managed to cure all these flaws?

HOLYCOW, that would be something like "HHHHHHHALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH...................."

I think Rosen's right, I mean what, 50% from the floor? That's like only half. Most top players generally shoot around 90-100%.

Oh wait, this is basketball, not biathlon, sorry!

I am not sure whether Wilt or Jordan alone can carry this team to the playoffs, especially when your teammates shot 28% from the floor for the whole game.

Does anyone still remember the Jordan team pre PJ and Pippen? Yep, MJ was consistently great but his team sucked badly.

Give me 3 stiffs like Yao and I will own the league. Case closed.

And Rosen can literally lick the crap from his rear. He deserves it.

I remember Big Z in the Miami/cleveland game last sunday was murdering Shaq with spin moves and spot up shooting. The ABC annoucers kept saying Miami would have to have shaq move up and guard him. I didn't see the second half so not sure what defensive adjustments they did, but in the first half Z was killing shaq with jumper after jumper.

Moral of the story = with today's NBA and the realtively only 2 or 3 traditional centers left these guys will get murdered under certain conditions whether their name is MIng or O'neal.

Seriously, is this guy paid to wait for a loss of Rockets and write a negative article about it?

I like bananas! I dont like Rosen! This man is evil and his writing the above article on Yao Ming is full of evil content, it is biased , picking on Yao Ming because of some deep down hatred which will never bring peace to Rosens mind!
Never did he mention all the great positives of Yao's game or that Yao Ming has shown considerable improvement and that he is only one of three NBA player having 20 and 10. Already this early in yao's career [ he is a slow improver] he is among an elite group of three NBA athletes.Nerither did he remember that this game was the second of a back to back game.
May God cast out the evil from your evil heart Mr, Charlie Rosen !!!!!

I thought that the only robotic thing here was Rosen's writing, but maybe that's just me. I mean, good grief, could you dig up any more tired discussions than those, Charlie, you fossil?

    Jordan had Pippen
    Malone had Stockton
    Shaq had Kobe, now Wade
Duncan had Robinson, now Parker and Ginobili
    Bird had McHale
    Johnson had Worthy and Abdul-Jabar
    Isiah had Laimbeer and Rodman
    Nash has Marion and Stoudamire
    Nowitzki has Terry

In today's NBA, you need at least two great players with good role players to be successful. One player is not enough. I don't see Garnett carrying his team to the playoffs. Kobe isn't exactly gangbusters either (and the Lakers have a better supporting cast than the Rockets do). Yet because Yao is not successful doing what no one else can do, he is a "colossal second banana." Whatever.

If this guy does not like Yao,which his track record would suggest, that is fine. Free Speech is part of America. If he really thinks Yao is this worthless however, he's clearly on drugs.

Yao is one of only four guys averaging 20 and 10 this season

In his last ten games, he has averaged 28 and 14

Yao is top ten in shooting % yet collectively the team is 29th in shooting percentage. Take away the great walls contribution and the percentage would plummet even deeper into mediocrity.

Yes free speech is legal but so is the backlash that comes with being a jackass. If Rosen keeps saying a 20 and 10 guy who has yet to prime is a "2nd banana" he should expect more and more criticism for his asinine point of view.

Actually, he was reminded many times throughout his career that he could easily end someone's career with his elbow, and he is just too nice to see that happen.

I can assure, the time Yao starts to swim that elbow, that's the time the league will either change the rule, or put heavy fine on him, but that will be after him ending a couple guys career.

Most of the things the guy said is true about Yao, but that also tells you how good Yao has been, and how ignorant the guy is. Basketball is all about execution. Every team in the league has scout report on every other team's players, but knowing their strength & weakness is one thing, stopping them is entirely different story. That's what separates the good ones from the average players: still beat you even you know what he's going to do.

"A note to long-suffering Cavaliers' fans: Don't get caught in the LeBron James pipe dream. The best King James can ever be is an average NBA player." -- Charley Rosen, 2-27-03

Charlie has an obvious, negative bias against Yao. Don't know why.

But as far as articles go- that was one of the most detailed scouting reports I've ever read in an article during the regular season. If I have to read negative stuff, I'd love for it to be in-depth and detailed.

Two months ago I would have agreed with the second banana comment... Yao played like it -- a big man with special skills who didn't have the mindset or stamina to dominate night in and night out. For the first time, I was starting to question whether he would ever win a championship as the top guy.

But his transformation over the last month has been something incredible. Rosen just isn't acknowledging it and he writes these types of articles so they will be the buzz in places like ours.

But a question he never even considered: If you could take Yao Ming off the Rockets roster and replace him with any one player in the NBA right now, which one could get this team consistently winning as is?

    it's BS!

But at least I feel he got one point right: YAO is slow and drag HOU court speed down. My concern is: our guards have to think about how to pass the ball to YAO or need make A decision if pass the ball to him. And this process takes a few second and make our Offense look horrible.

If we can have Parker :(
