I'm starting to like this guy for the Rockets. What do you all think? He seems to be slipping. People are starting to make a big deal out of his perhaps not being 6'8"---well neither was Barkley and he did OK on the boards. I guess I like his ferocious intensity; any team can use that. Get on board or let me have it!

If he slips it will be to 4 or 5, not to 9.

I for one love marcus Fizer and think he will be a good player in the league. But I have to agree with aelliott, if he slips, it will not be to the 9th pick.

Yeah I agree wholeheartedly that Fizer won't slip to #9 .... I watched him a lot in the NCAA Tournament and the guy is a beast -- moves very well.

At the same time who thought Paul Pierce, projected by most to be Top 3 in 1998, to slip to #10?

    Clutch,

Valid point about Pierce, but usually guys slide because teams are reaching to find big guys. It's alot more common for smaller players to slide that it is for power players.

Fizer doesn't not jump that well. He doesn't ooze athleticism in the jump sense. He oozes athleticism in the lineback kind of way. He's a rock solid 260 lbs. But he moves like he's 210 at times. But his feet are so quick and nimble for a guy that size. And he is very strong down low regardless of competition level. I saw him bowl through a quadruple team once for a strong bucket. It wasn't like one of those one guy is banging him and the other two are slapping at the ball scenarios. All four were bodying up on him. That was very impressive. Think Corliss Williamson on steroids and then you can get just a glimpse of what this guy is about.

I liked the description of Fizer, but one question rises to mind. Two reasons were given for his substantial improvement from Sophomore to Junior year: new coach, increase in weight of 25 lbs.

Did he dominate the Big 12 and otehr college teams only because of his bulk? And if that is the case, would he be so effective in the heavier, stronger NBA? Charles could move very well, jump very high and had the savvy to succeed. How does Fizer compare?
