I smell a huge rat. He plays 1st finally, from all accounts, barely gets any action there, then mysteriously sits out the next 2 games??

Anybody heard any reason why? Doesnt add up to me

I think they had planned to rest him after he throws a lot in a single day. He had to throw grounders to the infielders between every inning, so that was a lot of work for the shoulder.

That is utterly ridiculous. Bagwell is THE best player to EVER wear an Astros uniform. A first ballot hall of famer, former MVP, who left it all on the field and never bolted for greener pastures when he had the chance.

He deserves to go out on his own terms. You deserve to root for another team.

The day Bagwell retires or is forced out by the organization will be one of the saddest sports days I ever experience. If (more like when) the Astros win it all and Bagwell isn't on the roster, victory just won't taste as sweet.

Anyone wishing him to leave treating him as scum is not a real Houston Astros fan. Drayton has the money to spend; if Bagwell is still capable of playing, he should play. If all he can do is sit on the bench and pinch hit every now and then, I'd much rather him do it as an Astro instead of anyone else.

From what all he accomplished, just give him the chance to prove himself or go out his own way.

Cmon' guys you know this is the 21st century, loyalty means nothing to anyone in pro sports. Neither to the player or fan. This holds true in life in general, just look at the business field or marriages dissapating so quickly.

If this were the 70's or 80's you would hear a different tune, but thats just the way it is now. Texanskan is just being honest, a realist, and wants to see his team win with the reality of baseball today. There is no reason why loyalty dictates giving someone that big of a contract. As cliched as it may sound, we live in a "what have you done for me lately" society.

The true patriot wants to see his team win whatever the cost may be.

Yes, he's overpaid now cus he was vastly underpaid during his prime! He could of gone anywhere else & got more money, but chose to take less to remain an Astro!

As for Bagwell himself, I think his shoulder is shot & he should retire gracefully. The money has nothing to do with it.

As for Drayton, I think he feels the same way. However to recover 15 of the 17 m Jeff will receive this year, he had to file a claim in January.

It's a sad situation that no one wanted.

Do you guys even keep up with astros.com or anything?

Most of the veterans were getting the weekend off anyway, Bagwell included. This was determined before he even decided he was able to go to 1st in his last game. Chill out guys. He'll be back in about 6 hours.

    Bagwell tests shoulder in field

texanskan, I have no respect for trolls like you. You are so negative to our Houston sports. Bagwell is an Astros icon along w/ Ryan, Scott, Niekro, etc.

Why don't you join here if you're full of hate - Jack or here - a$$

Which is in itself a tragedy. I love Bagwell and have the same sense of loyalty/mixed feelings about this whole fiasco as any other Astros fan, but the best player in franchise history has never been past the first round in his entire career, not until he becomes a secondary player at the end of his career and watches a younger core get him over the top (I will give credit to Biggio because he was an integral part of the teams from the past two seasons that had some post-season success).

I hope for bigger and better days for the Astros franchise than they had during the Bagwell era...not a knock on Bags, just being honest here.

true, it's not as if bagwell's not a revered icon in this city still, it's just he can't play anymore.

    period.
