The level of whining about the change outweighs the original because nobody was really bothered by it before, whereas a lot of people don't like the change.
Yeah that was rude and that was directed at the team and diffidently spoken out of anger after last call. I edited the last part out It's obviously just going to go back and forth with no end in sight until a mod locks it. We don't need another Soccer thread locked in here
But why? It's over and done with. Most people in their right mind don't agree with the change, but there's no going back at this point. I'd rather see discussions about the actual team (especially since I'm a soccer newbie) than the name on the jersey.
I agree but I wasn't referring to that. I was talking about the stupid argument it was turning into. The whole your rude I'm rude everyones rude rude...
Wow, it could be a lot worse! http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=361136&cc=5901 NEW YORK -- Major League Soccer's MetroStars are being sold and renamed Red Bull New York. Anschutz Entertainment Group completed an agreement Thursday to sell the team to Red Bull Co. Ltd., an Austrian firm that manufactures an energy drink. Red Bull also bought naming rights for the soccer stadium the team hopes to build in Harrison, N.J., and will have 50 percent ownership. AEG will be in charge of building and operating the stadium. AEG still owns four of the 12 MLS teams: the Chicago Fire, D.C. United, the Houston Dynamo and the Los Angeles Galaxy. Red Bull also owns a soccer club in Austria: SV Red Bull Salzburg. Red Bull said its Austrian and American teams will work together "in athletic areas as well as in management and marketing." "Projected plans include talent scouting, mutual training camps and friendly matches," the company said in a statement.
Dont get used to calling them Houston Dynamo for too long. Mexico City's Club America, whom has tried to purchase and relocate the the San Jose Quakes to Houston since 2004, is still in talks with AEG to buy the club, even at this point. This is the market they (CA) want for there entry into the MLS. I now believe AEG moved the team here to make the sale and transition go much smoother. I'm convinced, sooner or later, this club will become CLUB AMERICA HOUSTON. Its only a matter of time.
Club America Houston. I like that. America is my favorite team in Mexico. Actually, the CA in America's logo was thought to be Canarios Amarillos, the original name of that America club in the 1918 first season. It was then changed. TigerEye: YES! Look at it this way, we certainly don't want to suck as much as Chivas USA... LeRoy, who is Oliver Luck, again, and why did he take so long in responding to you?
Oliver Luck is the president/GM of the team. He'll also be answering questions posted here http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=325727. About Club America, I don't want our team to become a second rate/farm team for somebody else. I also don't want them filling the roster with washed up Mexican player to try to attract Mexican fans, we've already got screwed out of the name at least leave us a competative team.
He emailed me back when the whole thing about changing the name started. I had emailed Glenn Davis at the Chronicle and he passed it on to Mr. Luck. We had emailed back and forth about the situation. He was very forthcoming in his opinion about the change and why it was apparently necessary. As of right now, he is the reason I will follow this team. Could you imagine if Bob McNair, Les Alexander, or Drayton McLane answered your complaints? I realize it's on a different scale, but it was still very cool of him.
