OT: Yao Ming Tops Chinese Celebrity Power Rankings on Forbes

    For the 3rd year in a row, Yao Ming tops the 2006 Forbes Chinese Celebrity Power Rankings.

    He ranked 1st in categories of annual income, TV coverage, media/press coverage, but comes in 2nd on number of hits on the Internet, and 4th on magazine covers.

    I would agree with this... I don't know many other Chinese celebs.

    Yao Ming came in #1.

    Zhou Xun, Zhang Ziyi, Zhao Wei all famous actresses came in 2, 3, and 4.

    Olympic 110m Hurdler Gold Metallist, Liu Xiang came in 5.

    And interesting enough, the Super Girl, Li Yuchun, dubbed as Yao Ming "sister", came in overall 6th. She has easily broken the annual income of 10M RMB in less than a year, and had high exposure on TV, media, and magazine cover. And she is the one that beat Yao Ming on Internet Google searching/hit rate.

    Were these posted earlier in this forum about Li Yuchun, the so-called Yao Ming sister ??

    This 21-year-old girl from Szechuan became an overnight national celebrity after winning a national singing contest in the mode of American Idol.

    Her huge popularity is well illustrated in the following incident: She arrived the same day into Beijing as Tracy McGrady, when TMC visited China last August. At the airport, only around 10 fans/reporters there to greet T-Mac, but over 1000 fans/reporters were on the spot to greet Li Yuchun

    Too bad you didn't have a picture of Yao next to this girl, he'd make her look 6 yrs old. This report kind of gives ppl an idea of celebrity in China. A hurdler and an 'american idol' winner are ranked 5 + 6 in a country with Billion plus citizens.

    Excluded Jackie Chan, Yao definitely is the top Chinese celebrity, however, if Jackie Chan is not Chinese enough, then I don't know who in the world has the right to claim themself being a Chinese more than Chan.......Oh never mind, those list are for mainland Chinese, and Jackie Chan and others are Chinese from HK.

    The hottest Chinese celebrity should be Zhang Zhiyi?? nowadays......in U.S.
    It's the lite version of Britney Spear in China.

    that, and the fact that yao ming is not 2.16 meters but more like 2.29! :rolleyes: makes you wonder what kind of jounalism is that. can't get the simple fact right.
