I'll tell you... sports 'analysts'. Can we even fill-up one hand with the analysts who mentioned that the Rocket's record was likely just a result of all of the injuries? That Yao was steadily improving? I doubt it. How much does TNT pay Chucky and Kenny? Kenny's usually decent, but didn't he chime in with CB on how much the Rocket's sucked this year? It amazes me...they pay these guys money...and all of ESPN...Fox...whomever. They're supposed to think, they're not supposed to be like the banal golf announcer who adds the titilating fact 'he dropped his putt'. Yes, I can see that he dropped his putt, dolt. And I can see that our record sucked. But I can use my brain as to why...not just proclaim that the Rockets suck and most assuredly won't make the play-offs. Same w/ the garbage about Yao...how many said 'he's a dissappointment' just over the last few months, w/o looking to see that he's been making incremental improvements, and may just bust loose. If any of them now say that we're hot or Yao's amazing..WTFC? They're stating the obvious...after the fact...no foresight, no analysis.
Agreed. Inside the NBA makes everything on ESPN look like crap. I like the fantasy guy on NBATV too. He's entertaining.
The TV analysts, generally, aren't very good. They're more of an entertainment outlet, not an information outlet. That goes for TNT and ESPN. But some of the ESPN reporters who contribute to ESPN.com, like Mark Stein, Rick Buecher, and John Hollinger, are pretty good. They have balanced views and make good arguments. It's interesting that former NBA players tend to make the worst analysts. Former coach analysts are usually better, but even the best of them (like Hubie Brown and Doug Collins) are some times not as insightful because they hesitate to criticize players and coaches.
How true is that. Greg Anthony, Screaming A. Smith (ugh), Charles Barkley (have mercy). Kenny Smith is the only ex-player commentator that I'd say actually has some decent analyst skills.
Sports anylysts/writers are alot like pop stars--they have the platform, ability and means to be so influential and intelligent but most of what comes out of their mouth is just pointless garbage.
Stephen A. was on Letterman last night, and he mentioned that he did play basketball in college. He hurt his knee as a freshman, and never played again.
LOL. Did he say "played basketball in college", or "played college ball". There is a big difference there, I think most of us played basketball in college.
Steven A Smith has to take the crown for lack of knowledge about his profession. I saw a couple of ESPN games where they take their studio crew and do the game with Steven A as the sideline reporter. Yikes, the guy messes up so many player names and information that you wonder if he even bothered to prepare. The funny thing is that his basketball knowledge dwarf his knowledge of other sports. Good thing nobody gave this guy his own sports show or anything.
Bonehead...Chucky...tonight... TNT showed graphic of the 5 teams fighting for the 7th & 8th spots...CB's first comment: 'well you can take Houston out of the equation' He doesn't get it...still. Winning at a 78% clip...only Yao can stop Yao now, no one can stop a healthy TMac. He still consider Utah his sleeper...please.
Charles atleast is not going back and saying they will make it now. He said, "I can't say they can get in since I said they won't" If he's wrong he'll take the heat.
