Did anyone catch his press conference yesterday defending McNamara? That was awesome. Coach Jim Boeheim angrily responded to comments by unidentified assistant coaches in Syracuse-area newspapers that called McNamara overrated. "Without Gerry McNamara, we wouldn't have won 10 games this year," Boeheim said. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=260672132 They left out the F-bombs.
I love the shot of McNamara sitting beside Boeheim during all this, his bowed head & blank stare masking the pride he must have been feeling while listening to his coach "getting his back".
"Without Gerry McNamara, we wouldn't have won 10 f***ing games this year," Boeheim said. that's what he actually said, and i loved it too. i can't believe some writer at the student newspaper actually agreed with those asssistant coaches. aparantly he doesn't cover his own team very closely. i'm not saying mcnamara is a future nba star or even starter, but that guy is tough and an excellent college player. boeheim also went onto say that those assistant coaches who said that "will never go on to be head coaches"......ouch...
mcnamara in win over #1 UConn: 17 points, 11 assists, 5 rebounds, and one HUGE three pointer to send the game into overtime. yeah, he's overrated.......
I don't get this though, Boheims own assistant coaches said Mcnamara is overrated? Why are his own assistants saying hes overrated? If I were a head coach I would be firing those coaches.
Interesting thing to chew on: McNamera or Redick. Seriously. Gerry dishes more and gets his teammates more invoved by his play. I think he may be the better play over all ,but I'm not saying he is for sure. Redick changes the game with his shot, doesn't really get teammates invloved much, and his D is lacking. Just a thought for some response.... by the way I'm Duke fan, not a Redick hater, just wanting some response on this issue.
redick will definitely be taken higher but i really see them having similar nba careers. i think they both will be good role players off the bench, who can come in and provide instant offense. but you are right rocketman, gerry is a much better pure PG prospect. better ball handler and passer, and it wouldn't surprise me if he was a better pro player because he has different aspects to his game.
mcnamera did it AGAIN, tonight against georgetown. in the final minute he hits a huge 3 pointer to pull the game within one, pushes the ball the other way hits a teammate with a great pass for a layup to put cuse up one point. then causes a travel by the georgetown ballhandler trying to cut through the defense. still can't believe there were assistant coaches who said he was overrated. unbelievable.
