HOUSTON -- Houston Rockets center Dikembe Mutombo is expected to be sworn in as an American citizen on Thursday.

Mutombo said he got word from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Wednesday that his paperwork had been approved.

Mutombo, who was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, will be sworn in as an American citizen in Atlanta, where he lives in the off-season.

"It's more joy and more happiness," he told Houston television station KRIV. "My blood is still going to be Congoese. This is where we are going to call home, so it's good to be an American."

The NBA star said he hopes becoming an American will help his cause of building a hospital in his hometown of Kinshasa.

"I think it will open up the door more to the government assistance in this country," he said.

I honestly think Mutumbo helped/taught Yao Ming alot about how to block shots.

I noticed the block improvement by Yao immediatly after a few games of having deke. So that mentormenship alone makes Deke a great pick-up

Yao still needs a signature...like that spin move of his.

Well you all know how Mt. Mutumbo wags his finger after every block, Yao needs something like that, since he'll be getting blocks more often now it looks like :D .

He can't bite the finger wag...so...

Everytime Yao rejecets someone, he's going to do that funky ASG dance.

    NICE!

Go to NBA.com and their video section. Then look for the All-star game West introductions, and you'll see Yao getting down.
