I was not offended at all but there has been alot of tension between Japanese and Chinese cultures recently. Maybe I'm making that up but I do recall something.

And the only Chinese hero I can think of is Wong Fei Hung or Mao (lol). And I'll be damned if we're calling him Mao Ming.

Actually, Yao's play is a lot like Sabonis' play. Efficient, powerful, but not hugely athletic.

Remeber when Sabonis finally came over to the States? In the twilight of his career, no doubt, but still. That man was a freaking tree. Nobody could move him out of the post. He didn't dunk much, but he coudl finish with either hand, had all the tricks, knew how to get and hold position, could shoot the ball . . .

Yao has often said that he really admired Sabonis play. i don't doubt that Sabonis is a role model for yao. I didn't see much of Sabonis in his prime, but have little doubt that it's somewhat similar to yao's current binge.

I disagree with you to a point, Yao is so unique and difficult to guard because he is FREAKISHLY Athletic for a man that gigantic.

Now, compared to Amare--no, Yao isn't atheletic. But his spin moves, fadeaways and "shakes" are hard for any player to do that isn't naturally coordinated and athletic. If he can spin baseline on KG or Marcus Camby and beat them to the rim, I think that classifies you as "athletic"

Sabonis couldn't pull off a baseline spin or Shake-n-Bake like Yaozer if his life depended on it.

Not surprisingly, that movie sounded a lot better as "Unleashed".

    I like the concept though.

Whoa, you must not have seen Sabonis in his prime. In his younger days, he was incredibly athletic. He physically outclassed David Robinson in the Olympics. Granted he was probably packing about 260 lbs instead of the 300+ when he finally got the NBA, so it's hardly an appropriate comparison with Yao anyway.

Man all you chinese who get offended are taking it a bit too far. There is no race negativity intended in what Julio said and you guys need to stop bringing your culture baggage onto what that should be a non-race activitiy. He was just having fun naming Yao a Superhero, I don't understand why you guys are getting so sensitive and ruining this stuff. It's not like I care when we're playing basketball and some chinese dude (and yall all say this) say that Americans and English people are the same just because we speak the same language.
    I like Yao ming b/c he's a hard worker.

Hermann Goering is someone who hated Jewish. Samurais DO NOT HATE CHINESE PEOPLE. yea some did and some didn't. Erwin was one man hating all jewish, samurais are just FIGURES. They do not represent one man. They only represent strength and agility. Don't give me that bs that chinese and japanese have long history of hatred b/c i know my history. I know that they dislike each other but making a statement that all samurais hate chinese people in incorrect.

Whatever, you guys can argue all you want but i honestly thought sports figure are loved by Americans because of their greatness. I'm not going to post anymore on this thread about this subject.

Alright, let me ask a question to derail this thread a little bit so everyone can calm down and then talk about basketball again.

Has anyone figured out why samurais didn't wear pants?

Or maybe just use a direct translation of what the Chinese fans call him:

    CHAIRMAN YAO

Shaolin is Buddhist, not Taoist. They're both wussy philosophies anyway, not approriate for a dominating player.

From your description of him, I think it's "Guan Yu."
