I think Bismarck has transcended national boundaries. I've seen numerous politicians analogized to Bismarck in non-Germanic nations. *just to continue the tangent...
No i didnt see any racism. I know he didn't have those intentions, but i did see ignorance. So i was merely informing the difference, not attacking him at that point. Then he came back and said 'close enough', DEFINITELY something an ignorant person would say..
oh my bad, he didnt say 'close enough', he said 'closest thing i can think of'.. not nearly as bad, but when i first read it implied the same thing..
how do u edit this thing? i was trying to add to the post above.. anyway sorry guys for derailing the thread.. lets get back to topic!
While it is true that Yao has not become exponentially quicker, he HAS become quicker since his toe surgery. His quickest move, the baseline spin into dunk, has never been as fast as it has been for the past month. That said, he is still not nearly as fast as Shaq was in his prime. However, and I believe this was the ACTUAL premise of the thread, Yao is DEFINITELY using his size and strength to his advantage more now than ever before. He is bumping off defenders like never before in his career, and it's in this respect that he has played most "Shaq-like" recently. Sure, Shaq's quickness has been an important component of his greatness, but his greatest advantage has always been his bulk and strength, which of course he carries better than any big man in history. While Yao will never have the physique of a Shaq, he is indeed learning to use his own considerable weight and strength to impose his will in the paint. Although it is the foundation of his game, Yao did not rack up 38 points relying on finesse. He is truly becoming a monster.
And he is literally twice the FT shooter as Shaq. That kind of irritates me because if only the refs did their job!
There was no rascist intended in the yao being a samurai comment. It's like saying SHAQ IS LIKE SUPERMAN!! What all of a sudden we're labeling shaq as white? It just so happens that samura is from an asian descent and so is Yao. But he was just trying to label yao as quick and strong like a samurai. Just imagine a white guy who has a jumper like Allen Iverson and someone points that out. THERE IS NO FREAKIN RACE ISSUE INTENDED IN THAT COMMENT. It's just the guy has a shot like AI. Yao is quick and strong like a samurai.
I find it ignorant that you claim Superman is WHITE. He happens to be an ALIEN from KRYPTON and has no historical ties to human races. Please get your facts straight before you post!
Would you call a great Israel/Jewish General "The Israel Erwin Rommel"? Would you call a great Israel/Jewish Air Marshal "The Israel Hermann Goering"? What you said implied only one thing: You don't understand what is going on between true Chinese and Japanese.
chill down. some of you guys are too fickle. I dont think there was any bad intention behind Julio-R-'s "Samuri". Why would you want him to be as familiar with Asian history as you?
Let's all cool it already. The guy just doesn't know any Chinese folk heroes. To end this debate, let's just give Yao the nickname of that one Chinese hero with the red face, long beard, whose weapon is that big halberd. My Chinese brothers know who I'm talking about. That dude is a badass.
so is comparing a european to superman really that disrespectful? take it easy I don't think julio meant to disrespect anyone.. just as he said he can't think of any other asian cartoon/comic character.. can you?
Alright let me just appologize so we can move on. I didn't think my post through. I was mostly thinking about the Super Hero, not the race. I didn't mean to offend anyone. I'm not an ignorant person. Sorry if my words came out the wrong way. Back to the main topic. I think Yao's game hasn't really changed much, but his attitude really has. His moves havn't changed since he entered the league, but the difference from then and now is that he now gets in "attack mode".
I listened to Gene Peterson on 610 radio last night, for the first time during Yao's streak. I have never heard him say, "Yao Ming, POINT BLANK..." so many times before in a game. I heard it virtually every time they worked the ball in to Yao. He's made great strides, and will hopefully continue to improve.
