Can someone tell me what transpired here? Did Yao get Jeff's back when he was yelling at the ref or something? Technical Fouls HOU 2nd Qtr4:13 Jeff Van Gundy HOU 2nd Qtr4:14 Ming Yao
He showed some emotion. Yao isn't taking **** from anyone anymore, he's a big boy now . I would watch out if I was the league...
Yao got pissed that the ref didnt call a pretty blatant foul by Pollard but then calls a foul on the other end. He got a technical foul for that and then JVG came to his defense and got one also.
Foster shoveled Yao and got no call. Then Yao defense Stojakovic's jumper and was called for a foul. Yao is so frustrated at that point and hacked the referee. Foster, Pollard, harrison should have all fouled out in the 4th qtr. Just look at how the played Yao.
From ESPN The Rockets' first-half frustrations boiled over when Yao apparently got shoved by Scot Pollard, but no foul was called. Stojakovic got fouled at the other end and Yao snapped at referee Tony Brothers to earn his second technical of the season. Stojakovic sank all three foul shots and Houston coach Jeff Van Gundy chastised Brothers and got a technical of his own. Indiana's lead swelled to 14 after Stojakovic sank another free throw.
In all fairness, there were some fouls we got away with in the last minute of the game, fighting for rebounds. I'm probably the only one that noticed since I'm also a Pacers fan. The refs tonight weren't exactly stellar. They missed fouls and a couple of out of bounds calls, one of which was an all-timer.
I like this very much. Yao is treated more poorly by referees than any other established player in the league. Note that I didn't even use the word "star." The borderline calls still consistently go against him. I don't think it's a conspiracy, but has more to do with style of play and the difficulty of officiating Yao/Shaq - but it is very unfair and should be addressed. Let's face it - few defenders would survive 3 quarters without fouling out if the refs treated Yao like most other players not named Shaq.
Foster got SO many rebounds because refs allowed him to do whatever he wanted. He reached over Yao head countless times and was NEVER called a foul, and he basically hit our guys' arms and threw his body like human torpido to our guys, no call. If anything, I'd complain that Foster should been fouled out with a whole quarter to go.
Yao also got away with some fouls, but you are so right about Foster. Yao should have had way more than 10 FTs.
Well they damned well better not have called up for anything in the last minute of the game. Freaking Pollard was holding Yao's arm every time down on the offensive end in that same last minute. If you call us for contact on a loose ball, you better not swallow your whistle while Yao gets stripped of the ball 'cause he only has one hand to hold it with. And that Tony Brothers fellow better not show his face again in the Toyota Center. That's the most poor job of officiating I've seen in a while.
I will say that the Pacers are darned talented. Their bigs are tough dudes. Their backcourt can flatout shoot. Stephen Jackson is a steal, and Peja played great tonight. Carlisle is a heckuva coach and the Pacers are a pretty amazing team, even without J. O'Neal.
YAO GOT A TECH *cry* . .. It is was beautiful I said I wouldn't cry Rocket RIver YAO MEAN!! YAO's TEAM Keep it up big guy
In all fairness, Yao gets away with a LOT more now. He gets hacked a lot as well, but he's getting a lot more calls/non-calls these days. They let the man play, that's all you can ask. If the refs give him the room to play, this is what happens. You can't stop him.
It's all on Tony Brothers. He doesnt like the Rockets and especially doesnt like Yao Ming. I shudder everytime I hear he is reffing a Rockets game. I dont know what it is with Yao and Brothers, but he never gives Yao any calls.
