EDIT: anyone who had RR problems in the past, it's more than likely that your lines were old or bad. Just call and tell them that you are having DC issues, and when the tech comes out, TELL HIM to run new lines, and DIRECTLY from the tap (not split). Your TV quality will increase, too.
i've had RR for a year. i can count the number of times i've had disconnect issues on three fingers. DSL has given me plenty of problems.
lol, dsl vs. cable reminds me of x-box vs. playstation or any other dumb random thing where everyone picks their fav and rails on the other one.
So is this RR Lite service still in the trial period or has it been officially rolled out. There is no info about it on the TWC Houston website or the Houston RR website. How do you switch to lite? My grandparents are paying $45 for cable internet right now but all they do is check their email and stream some basic audio/video...they can do the same thing with the Lite service and save some money but how do they switch...call TimeWarner csr and ask for it?
I had DSL. Working on the net all day, it SUCKED compared to my cable connection. I had Dish. Every time it rained or got windy, my signal went out or got blurry. Now, I have digital cable, digital phone and roadrunner and pay about $130 with tax per month.
Ive had both roadrunner and dsl and raodrunner is prob the fastest internet ive used, especially in my area. I get T1 speeds with my line and if i could afford to, I would get another line in my house. Then again, I download and play online games so much that it might be worth it. $44 is a little steep, but i defintely get my moneys worth.
Why do people get digital phone service from Time Warner? My Vonage bill is $15 less a month for literally the same damn thing. Is it because you get to bundle services and receive one shiny bill (i.e you're extremely lazy)? Is it the short-term bundling price (which eventually skyrockets)? Is it because it's some mega-conglomerate offering the service instead of a smaller company? Separating services can actually save you money sometimes, y'know. *sigh* I just don't understand. (Then again, I'm the same guy who buys a preamp and amplifier for his home theater over a crappy catch-all receiver.)
wow, i don't know why mine was so much more expensive. i don't have a bunch of movie channels, either. my bill was consistently coming in at around $170-180 per month.
Just give them a call at 713-341-1000. Make sure you have the billing address phone number and the last 4 digits of the social of the account holder and ask for rr lite.
I have yahoo dsl through sbc and one way they make up the cheap price is to sneak charges on to your phone bill which are a pain in the ass to remove. If you stay on top of it you can usually get the charges removed, but everything with sbc from the customer service automation on up is made to be a complete pain in the ass so you won't bother to call and argue.
You can jump back and forth between RR/Earthlink every 6 months for 29.95. You lose your email addresses though.
Yes, I'm either: a. lazy b. stupid c. someone who hates small companies Maybe, if you didn't buy expensive home theatre equipment that affords you no other entertainment than sitting and watching TV, you wouldn't need to worry about saving $15 per month on your telephone?
Do you have a dvr? How many digital cable boxes? I have cable/rr and pay about $114 a month already. I also have the HBO package.
I posted this in the SBC/TW phone thread too... I'm thinking about switching from DirecTv, DSL, LAN phone and Alarm all to Time Warner (Cable/DVR, IP Phone, Broadband, Alarm monitoring).. anyone have all these services from Time Warner? Is it a good discount getting all of them, or do they do the same "jack up the price" thing after 6 months with them?? The sad thing is I want to do it because of price, but I cant live without my DirecTv TIVO.. these things rock soooo much, it's hard to make the switch to that crap T/W calls a DVR..
another reason i stay with time warner is because i think they're the only ones who offer dvr's that record in HD. i rarely see anything live including rockets games so i feel like even though i'm missing programs i can record them and still take advantage of having an hdtv. if i went to satellite which would ultimately be cheaper i'd be missing out on HD programming unless i paid $400 for one of those hd recorders.
What don't you like about it? It works fine for me...most of the time. Every so often it will forget to record shows, but other than that it works fine.
The GUI, the speed and it has ADs on it.. oh and it's really slow.. also it cuts off some of description of the show..oh and the remote is the size of a brick.. there was much more that I didnt like about it, but those are the few that really got under my skin..
I have everything but the home monitoring and love them all. I have checked on the prices with Lan, sbc, directv and haven't found it to be a better deal at all. In fact, if you use the $99 bundle for six months and then downgrade to roadrunner lite (3.0 mbps) which is still better than dsl, you can ensure savings.
