Through some Obscene Lucky Strike Would it be better to trade down? It seems there is not OVERALL #1 Pick [Like with Duncan] Taking our chances that OUR guy will still be around. [Only move down 3~5 places [Package the Pick with Walt FORCE HIM ON SOME ONE!!! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE] Or just get our guy and be out? and WHO WOULD THAT GUY BE? Everyone I see being discussed seems like we have a GREAT chance of getting them from 5~10 So why pick them at # one and have that AUTO CAP Space applied to our cap? Just a Question for Discussion. [Trading a Number 1 may be more profitable in the long term.] Rocket River ------------------
I'd go with Kenyon Martin. He is said to make a full recovery, and James Worthy had a similar leg injury in I believe his rookie year, and he didn't do too poorly, did he? I'm a UT fan, but Mihm, I hate to say, strikes me as a stiff. I was watching one of the games, and some obscure team gave him a really tough time, and he couldn't get open. ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
Depends on the situation. If the 2nd pick team isn't going to take a chance on Martin or wants someone else at a different position then the Rocks could trade down to 3 and pick a nice first rounder for next year and dump Walt. But the Rocks would have to know what the 2nd pick team wants to do through inside information or they wouldn't be able to trade down without risk. Above all, get Kenyon Martin. In all likelihood the Rocks would take K.M. immediately without question. ------------------ Kick a$$ Monday OU!!!
Kenyon a little twist...if we got the #2, would you trade up with the Bulls for Kenyon with an asking price of Cato (since they want a center) If not...What if we can make them take Walt as well? We effectively unload $8m in team salary for Webber's coming out party the following year. ------------------ The farther the Rockets move down the standings, the farther I move down the bleachers.
a side of Chris Webber would be delicious if you ask me. On Da Bulls thing, is the asking price Cato for the #2 pick, or is it Cato and the #6 (or our pick) for the #2 pick? If it's simply Cato, all the way I'd do it. Draft Martin at #2, and pick up say Brendan Haywood with the #6 (I'd maybe trade down a few picks) (or who's another center possibly leaving? Ah, I can't think.) ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
Nike is a dreamer Cato, Walt and our #6 for Bulls #1. We take Kenyon, and effectively free up $8m in cap room for the Webber Lottery the next year. Don't get greedy my man...patience. ------------------ The farther the Rockets move down the standings, the farther I move down the bleachers.
Who in their right mind would want Walt. He is too up and down. I bet Da Bulls would turn that down. They can have anybody they want this summer, why would they burn 6 mill on Cato and 5 on Walt? If they want Cato and Walt instead of say Hill or Duncan or McGrady then they have their head stuck up their a$$. There is no way they do that deal. My guess is they won't trade their #1 pick for nearly anything unless it's Francis which aint gonna happen. The Rocks are going to have to get lucky if they want Martin or hope the Clips get the #1 and hope they screw themselves again by doing something stupid like trading their pick for ours and Cato and Walt. It really couldn't work anyway for either of them since they burn up so much money. Cato by himself would require the Clips to trade us a throw-in or release somebody before they do it. Once again, the Rocks will have to get the #1 themselves by paying David Stern under the table or by getting him some $2 hookers for the lucky ping pong ball. I bet Stern would do it too. ------------------ [This message has been edited by SooneRockStro (edited March 23, 2000).]
All I need is the doctor's word that Kenyon Martin will be back to 100%. It doesn't matter if you have to wait half the season for him to suit up, we have plenty of time. Then again, there's Fizer and that outside shot and the ox-like build. Matt Bullard made a living off that pick and fade play with Francis with his lean frame...imagine what a bigger guy like Fizer could do. Then again, you could trade the pick for a proven commodity. SO many different combinations the Rockets can look at. Damn, I'm glad I'm not Rudy. ------------------ "Sources tell me that the Blazers held a team meeting after the two losses..." - "Pistol" Pete Vescey with the inside scoop.
I would trade: the #1 pick Kelvin Cato Bryce Drew Shandon Anderson #1 pick in 2002 to Vancouver for Shareef Abdur-Rahim. SF: Abdur-Rahim/Williams PF: Thomas/Rogers/Leon Smith??? C: (see below) PG: Francis/Norris SG: Mobley/2nd rounder or free agent ...(hopefully) we'll get Detroit's first round pick and we can use that to draft a decent center like Woods, N'Diaye, or Magliore. Maybe also use our 2nd round pick from Vancouver on another center like Jabari Smith. Also maybe Venson Hamilton and Tyrone Washington have improved in Europe and may be able to help out in the middle. Then use our own 2nd rounder on a SG to back-up Cuttino. Maybe Lamont Long from New Mexico? Or sign a free agent veteran like John Starks or Kendall Gill. The Grizz would lose their star but gain much depth by having those 3 players plus 2 top 5 picks. SF: Terence Morris?/Anderson PF: Kenyon Martin?/Harrington C: Cato/Reeves PG: Bibby/Drew SG: Dickerson/Lopez [This message has been edited by outlaw (edited March 24, 2000).]
a little twist...if we got the #2, would you trade up with the Bulls for Kenyon with an asking price of Cato (since they want a center) Depends on if Mihm comes out. All reports seeem to indicate that Chicago wants Mihm (go figure). So, if he does declare you won't need to trade up because Martin will be there at #2. If Mihm doesn't come out, then there's a good chance that Chicago trades their pick (They don't need Martin since they have Brand). That would be a tough call. It would really end up being a Fizer/Cato vs Martin decision. I think I'd have to go with Fizer and Cato. Martin's good, but so is Fizer and without Cato we'd have a huge hole in the middle. ------------------ [This message has been edited by aelliott (edited March 24, 2000).]
Kenyon Martin. Clearly he has the most potential of all the players, and that includes the risk of recovery and the risk of becoming re-injured. If he's available anywhere from 1 to 7 you take him. It's all a crap shoot anyway, so you're better off taking the best available talent and Martin is just that. And like people have said before, we have the technology, we can rebuild him..... ------------------ humble, but hungry.
